Knitting and Tatting

Gail has posted a picture of some mittens she made out of handspun yarn and notes that she doesn't have the problem with counting stitches in tatting that she does in knitting.

Lynda has done 2 more of her Christmons. The Tatted Rose Heart from Nancy Tracy's be-stitched newsletter for February, and the Star of David from the January 13 Tatting Calendar.
Sharol had plans to design 25 sun motives, but after a break she's thinking of changing her goal and has some new ideas. In the meantime she has posted a lovely pink angel from Eileen Stafford's design tatted in size 5 perle cotton.
Riet has posted a fun picture of her son dressed in his carnival costume.

Donna has been experimenting with knitting and created a nice warm hat to keep the cold out.

Marilee has finally got a join that works the way she wants it to in the bookmark she has created. Doesn't it look scrumptious?

This cold weather is bringing out the knitters. Laura has made a pair of mittens and incorporated some eyelash yarn in the cuffs. They look very cozy.

I missed LaRae's wordless Wednesday and thankful Thursday posts, but today she has posted Jane Eborall's Flowery SCMR Bookmark and notes Jane's imaginative Tatbead family. You must take a look at all of them if you haven't yet. They really are charming in a wacky sort of way.
Charlene has posted a CQ piece which incorporates the feather stitch.

Hearts - It must be Valentine's Day

Ruth will be teaching this cute little bird at the Shuttlebirds Workshop. Does that mean there will be a whole flock of birds when the class is over? Ruth has posted more details about the workshop on her blog.

Like many of us in Southern Ontario Clyde spent Valentine's day digging out from under the snow. He still managed to find time to post this motif done in a gorgeous Valdani thread Pearl Cotton #12 colour M360. The pattern is his variation of a pattern from Tatting Patterns and Design by Gun Blomqvist and Elwy Persson called Star#1.
Mark has posted 2 variations of a heart that he did for his wife to go with a card. The heart features a rosette, split rings and half ring braid. He has plans for a romantic evening with his wife, and we're sure she'll love the card.

Congratulations to Jon who has completed the challenge and made her 25 motives. The last of her 25 is a square doily made from the bottom up and then finished off with an outer round, very clever. Jon was wondering if she could come up with some designs of her own for the challenge and surprised herself that 24 of her 25 were her own original patterns. For Valentine's day she designed Hearts Snowflake so now she has her 25 original designs ans she's wondering what's next. That's easy, now you document them all and publish.

Riet has posted some lovely hearts for Valentine's day. The smaller ones were done in different sizes of thread and the larger ones are a design she uses as a bookmark. Such a wonderful grouping of hearts. It's so pretty.
For Valentine's day Sharon has posted a pattern for some heart shaped earrings she did a while ago. EeKoon has been working on some wonderful stitching. There's a huge amount of work in these pieces.

Carol had a very snowy Valentine's day and was forced to stay in and tat. Nice. The 15th is her birthday and she has posted some of the hearts she received in exchanges. Look at all the pretties.

Dawn has posted a design of crocheted motives with a tatted edging. Very attractive. On my to do list is an exploration of combined tatting and crochet. Kim Millar did a number of designs using both techniques and they were really beautiful.

Charlene posted a link to a friends blog with an explanation for UFO's. Interesting philosophy.

Sylvia has posted several new motives. The first is a pattern by Jennifer Williams from the RoT spring 2006 newsletter done in Perfect Quilter Thread from the Superior Thread Company. Sylvia cleverly stretched this lovely thread by using a similar size thread as the core thread. Her next motif is a candle done in Omega size 30 and a flower motif from Mary Maynard's design book, Rings of Flowers done in Hakelgarn size 20. Sylvia knows what she wants to film, but her camera doesn't see things the way she wants.

Eliz posts a picture of her tatting basket that used to belong to her husband's aunt. Lots of room for tatting supplies in here. Her motif for the day is Rosemary Peel's heart from the Online tatting class. The other pictures she has posted are a collection of UFOs that she finished off and blocked.

Oodles and Oodles of Tatting

Ruth has added instructions on how to make the Daisy Cluny Ring to her blog. Thank you for the wonderful information Ruth.

Clyde has completed 3 more small motives for his tablecloth. He's had a whirlwind of activity and sad news including the death of a family member and the demise of a TV. On a brighter note he has just received some thread in an exchange package along with some beads and chocolate. Everything goes better with chocolate doesn't it?

Riet has created a lovely little heart that might be small enough to use for an earring. It's just adorable and Riet has sent the pattern to Ruth for the calendar.

Barbara learned how to do split rings from her friend Jon and has tatted Jon's Clover Heart in appreciation.

Marilee has been busy learning different join techniques and experimenting with them. I can't wait to see what she come up with it looks intriguing.

Laura has done a Valentine's day motif. The finished result is very pretty, just not what she envisioned.

Dawn has tatted a heart from the Ring of Tatters site created by Rosemarie Peel. She used a deep red size 10 cotton for this one with pearl beads around the last round.

Every time you blink Marty has another spectacular piece on her blog. This doily uses Coats machine quilting thread in Rainbow colors. It's another of pattern from Iris Neibach's "Tatted Doilies" .

Sylvia has received the threads from her exchange partner and she plans on making something from them that she can use to teach her class.

Flamingo, Cat and Bookmarks

Gail just finished knitting some beaded gauntlets and had the additional challenge of uploading the pictures from her cell phone onto the computer and then into her blog.

Laura's latest motif is a flamingo from Jane Eborall's page.

Sylvia has posted a picture of a Christmas motif and shares the pattern for the button bookmark she did.

Eliz has joined the challenge and posted several motives, including a snowflake from Vida Sunderman and a cat from Inga Madsen as well as several bookmarks. Eliz explains that she hasn't followed any particular pattern she just likes to empty her shuttles by making these bookmarks for her library books. Eliz is really into Inga's Tatted Animals and is currently working on the dog.

Heart and Snowflake

Jon has created a wonderful heart pattern which she sent to Ruth for the Tatting Pattern Calendar. She has also posted the housewife she did as homework for the On-line Tatting class.

Charlene has been working on some crazy quilt hearts.

Sylvia has joined the challenge and already posted a number of tatted items. Her first motif is a Flutterflake by Emma Crew done in a variegated yellow Floretta size 20 and a blue size 80. She also shares with us a button bookmark designed by Anne Franklin, and a braided bracelet from one of Jane Eborall's designs.

Daisy cluny, rainbow heart, forgotten motives and miniature lace

Ruth has posted a daisy cluny ring. Following these techniques is making my head spin. Do you realize how many new things have been experimented with and expanded on just because we are tatting 25 motives. There are a lot of people who aren't participating in the challenge, but they are still following the results and talking about them on the tatting lists. What a wonderful way to expand our circle of friends and circle of influence. The other posting Ruth has shared is a heart that was in the Tatting Pattern Calendar yesterday. The Calendar has been another source of inspiration and has yet another motif in it today which was inspired by the medallion Ruth posted a while ago.

Mark has sustained an injury that will keep him from tatting for a while. Keep your thumbs up Mark.

Kathy tatted a sunny yellow motif from a 1968 Workbasket pattern in size 20 Flora thread. She has also posted a heart in a beautiful variegated Caron thread size 10. The pattern is a creation of Susan Taliaferro isn't it beautiful?

Sharon has posted some blobs of things she's working on and talks about the trials of publishing tatting patterns.

Azie hasn't been tatting for very long but after a long break she has posted some pictures of what she has been doing. She has three new motives to show all of them very well done. Only 20 more to go. Don't feel bad, I've only posted ONE.

Charlene has posted pictures of her Algerian stitch for the TAST challenge.

Marty tatted Iris Niebach's pattern Beatrice from "Tatted Doilies" done in Coats Machine Quilting thread in a variegated red -- about size 100. It's so tiny and delicate looking and just adorable. Know anyone who collects dollhouse miniatures? I know where they can find the perfect lace tablecloth.

Another tatter added to the challenge

Ruth posted a picture of an earring on Saturday Jan 7 and today you can see what it looks like tatted in the Tatting Pattern Calendar Ruth has created a lovely heart using the medallion design.

LaRae posts her thankful Thursday entry with a list of the things she is appreciative of. You know what I am thankful of Thursday and every day? That I can have a hot shower and get clean whenever I want. There's nothing like a clean body mind and spirit.

Marty has joined the challenge and posted her first 2 entries. The first entry looks like an edging. But when it's wrapped around a a styrofoam ball and pinned in place with a matching bottom it becomes a lovely ornament. Her second entry is a single shuttle bookmark, but she's worried that she hasn't figured out how to make all of her threads spaces even.

Tatted Treasures

Ruth has added a lot of lovelies to her blog. Tara brooch with beads is a real eye catcher and then she has hanging clunys, daisy picots, spiral chains, and celtic butterflies on a sea of burgundy.

Kathy has several new additions to her page as well. She is using the threads received in exchanges to tat up small motives and test the threads. Some of the pieces are sections of edgings, and motives from a variety of sources. The delightful little motif show here is Auver a sole silk color 494 and the pattern is from the July 1952 Workbasket. You'll have to see her blog for all of the other pieces.

Snowy has finally completed a doily from the Blomquist and Persson book. It's a wonderful doily done in vibrant colours that just sing. Snowy always chooses marvelous colours to work with. She pointed out that she missed a repeat on the outer edge, but the whole thing took so long to do she's just glad that it's finished. When the doily is in use you can always place a little ornament over that spot and no one will even notice it.

Azie has been involved in a redwork embroidery exchange and she shows the wonderful work that has been given and received.

Have you seen the recent entries in the Tatting Pattern Calendar? Lynda's Angel at Heart edging and Ruth's Tea Rose are just delightful. Great job tatters, now let's see more entries from our novice designers. This is a great way to get your toes wet publishing your work.

Jon has created a lovely 5 inch doily in size 40 thread. It wanted to ruffle a little but she tamed it by pressing it under a thick book. I've done that kind of thing before. Sometimes I just put it on a hard chair and sit on it while I'm working.

Maria has done a lovely delicate edging with a corner that would look gorgeous on a handkerchief. She has also done stacked rows of one shuttle edging suitable for an insertion and woven a pretty pink ribbon through it. It's very traditional but oh so feminine the ribbon could be a drawstring on a tatted bag or a camisole.

Azie has made slow progress on her stitching and hasn't been able to work on her tatting for a while so she thinks she may need a refresher course before she picks it up again.

Laura has changed Isaac's snake picture and incorporated some of the suggestions into a new picture. Looks good Laura.

LaRae has tatted a motif from a pattern on Wally's Tat-a-long. There is a variation in the way the joins were made.

Luscious laces, a feast for the eyes

Ruth has added beads to her celtic butterfly.

An estate sale find was the basis for this butterfly. Gail modified it so that it could be tatted all in one pass.

Clyde has completed a weeks worth of exercise and is feeling better for it. He's also finished the second tie back.

EeKoon has been busily stitching away on her pictures and show us her completed work and work in progress.

Jeanne has been quiet for a while, but busy. Her poor puppy got spayed and had a very sad time of it. The fabric store had a sale on and Jeanne scooped up a whole bunch of festive fabrics which she made into housewives. She tatted her 8th motif and added it to one of the housewives. The store has more sales on and Jeanne has gone fabric hunting again.

Carol has been tatting hearts for several exchanges, Hypno heart and Peppermint heart are some of her creations.

Marilee is wondering what this join is called?

"S" is for snake. Laura has made a picture with a tatted snake for Isaac. Braided tatting wrapped around the letter S and a colourful tatted snake in the grass. Very cute and very clever.

Charlene has posted some 3 inch Crazy Quilt blocks.

Mary did a second version of her Heavnly Heart using Delica bead DB512 and Flora thread 248 in size 20 and notes that it keeps it's shape better with the beads on the core thread. She has also posted a picture of the Lisa Marie earrings she designed made in Altin Basak size 50 thread, color # 354, with white pearlized size 11 seed beads. Delightful.

Tremendous Tatting

Ruth has posted more pictures of Celtic butterflies in lots of different colours and some with added beads. They're just gorgeous Ruth. I'd like a T shirt with lots of these scattered across it.

Gina did variations on a heart motif for the Tatting Pattern Calendar. Don't forget to let Ruth know if you have a design you'd like included.

Gail tatted a heart designed by Dorcas Newkirk, all rings are split rings but the point of the heart. She thinks the thread is Wildflowers by Caron, about a size 20, a soft thread that needs to be tatted loosely to close the rings easily.

Sue has been away from tatting for a while and jumped back in with the double daisy picot from Riet's blog. She also shows us a motif she was working on for the calendar, but didn't quite get it finished.

Mark has given the watercolor painting of his great aunt Mary Ellen to the family and it was appreciated by them all and will be used in the memorial services. He has plans to do several more watercolours of other family members. Liza the cat momentarily got her tongue stuck on Mark's knitted cap this morning which just goes to show how rough a kittie's tongue is.

Barbara has taken a selection of the motives she created and appliqued them to an inspirations book. Isn't it marvelous?

Carol's Wordless Wednesday is a picture of her new little friend.

Laura has been spending time with her grandson and discovering that she loves him more and more. Anybody ever taken an 11 month old toothless baby to the dentist? Sounds like fun, no teeth to worry about drilling and other nasty stuff.

LaRae's Wordless Wednesday is a bowlful of kitty. Thankful Thursday's entry is from Hosea 2:14-15 in The Message.I am noticing in many different blogs different ways to positively reflect on the past week. It's good to remember to be thankful as it keeps us appreciating our many blessings.

Charlene has been actively embroidering away on her quilts and stitched a lovely paisley heart. I wonder if it could be duplicated in tatting?
