Motifs, Bookmarks, Ornaments, Bracelet, Necklace, Snowman, Ice Drops, Runner, Doilies, Box, Earrings, Bell, Snowflakes, Leaves and Wreath

Vera has posted some of the motifs she has been working on like these that can be used as bookmarks or ornaments. This one is something that she's been wanting to tat for a long time. For Christmas Vera has her stars all assembled and put into small bouquets.

Pop Maria's last tatting for the year is this simple ring and chain edging turned into this gorgeous elegant two tone bracelet.

Batty Tatter enjoyed this Tree Top Ornament from the book Tatting for Today by Marion T. Leyds, but her points didn't quite meet the ring. She added one more ring just below the clover on either side of the points so that it fits the ring better and she's thinking she might just keep this one.

Elsa tatted Robin Perfetti's Magic Square which was translated into French and selected DMC 80 special thread, colours 437 and 169, but the design seemed too airy to use as a bookmark. She added in some tiny inserts to fill the voids. then capped it all off with a tatted triangle and some chained arches to finish it. She found this lovely design for a brooch on a Russian site, but since that's not something she would wear she changed it to a necklace.

Melanie found that keeping track of very small picots used for joining tucked in among a plethora of beads very challenging until she used tiny little loops of contrasting thread.

Diane received an Birthday Ice Drop from Denise in her exchange package. After a marathon of tatting she managed to finish her sister's mantle runner in time for Christmas and of course her sister loved it.

Fox had to face up to it, the row of split rings was wonky, so she bit the bullet, cut it off and started again. she has now completed the first split row again. Sigh.

Margaret tatted another Cosmic Ice Drop in Lizbeth size 20, with green beads and green glass gem using the pattern by Nicola Bowersox.

Marie had to make a few more trinket boxes to replace the ones sold at her shows. She designed these earrings for her baby sister, who has gorgeous blue eyes. Her gift from the tatting exchange included a tatted bell.

Muskaan tatted Snowflake for the Christmas tree by Agnieszka Michalowska, and in size 40, it measures 2¼” across. Round 9 of Agnieszka’s Doily #10 “Pikotek” done in aqua blue without the excess of picots.

Nikki forgot to post her Thanksgiving motifs and it seems a little out of season to post them now, but she's calling this 15 out of her 25.

Sue had this idea for a Christmas wreath. it's done in size 40 Lizbeth Christmas Green with 3 different sized picots randomly tatted along, but it would have looked better with more seed beads in more colours. She found a small motif she tatted that she's not sure what it was for, but it would made a great back for an Ice Drop. After all the snow they got she wanted colourful flowers, not more white stuff, so she tatted Diane's Pink Fudge Ice Drop pattern in size 40 Lizbeth Wildflower Garden.

Necklace, Ice Drops, Crown, Doily, Leaves and Snowflake

The Guidelines
1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing me to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.
2. The blogs are ALL checked whenever there is an update using the links list in the sidebar on the right, there is no need to advise me that you have added new content. If your new items haven't shown up, it's because I haven't had time to do an update yet.
3. I can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. I don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell me when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. From past experience I know the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let me know so that I continue to check your blog on a regular basis. Also let me know if once was enough so that I can move your blog to the list of past participants.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.
6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.
---------------

Elsa attended a flea market in the spring and used a quickly devised cardboard shuttle to demonstrate how to tat to one of the ladies present. When she went back again in the fall this lady showed her a design in a vintage publication which Elsa envisioned as a necklace, and what a very pretty necklace it made.

Diane decided to replace her old tree skirt with a new one so she hasn't had a lot of tatting time but she did get one Ice Drop done in her basic pattern since she can finish them much more quickly. She rewrote her Ice Drop Tutorial with more information and better pictures using the Ice Drop pictured here.

Eliz used 5 strands of Coats & Clark All Purpose Thread, article 210 colour 83B to tat a modified version of "Pinnacles" Crown. She prefers the look of it before the last round is added, but opted to tat just one repeat. It's currently being blocked stretched over a peanut butter jar.

Fox is making steady progress on her centre which may be boring repeats of the same motif, but the finished whole will be worth it.

Martha has added tatted leaves and flowers to a quilt block for the Palmetto's project quilt.

Muskaan tatted an adaptation of Patty Dowden’s Mardi Gras Snowflake for "I Love Tatting" in Mardi Gras colours using 3 strands of Anchor embroidery threads.

Sue wanted to tat these Ice Drops with silver bugle beads, but she discovered that even though they're marked the same size, there were differences in length. This one is in Christmas green. This next one is tatted in size 20 Lizbeth Snow White with long silver bugle beads and tiny read beads. The white and red Birthday Ice Drop is tatted in size 20 Lizbeth Snow White with red twisted bugle beads and tiny red beads and while it looks pretty just sitting there, it really glows with the light behind it. Another one tatted in size 40 Lizbeth Christmas Green with red bugle beads and white beads.

Wanda is planning on tatting Ice Drops for Christmas and she started with Cosmic Ice Drop, pattern by Nicola Bowersox although it was kind of boring without the beads the pattern calls for. She doesn't have the time to fuss with beads so she modified the outside and had to make adjustments to the back for the bevel on the gem.

Motifs, Techniques, Leaves, Ice Drops, Runner, Edging and Doily

Usha recently found way of overlaying another colour of thread while working on normal rings. Her group gave the technique a try and Vrinda did a variation with only 4 rings making a square motif. The PDF for the Encircled Charm is available on her blog. The process is similar to the Ikuta Picots by Muskaan. Of course what is any technique without pushing the envelope to see what can be done with it.

Vera has tatted some maple leaves in autumn colours.

Diane thinks the sparkle of this thread doesn't show up well in the picture and the Ice Drop is much prettier in person. She met with the Tollway Tatters and worked on her sister's runner, but noticed when she got to the last ring, that she had tatted the first ring wrong and had to snip. Denise finished Karey Solomon's Ice Drop from Palmetto Tat Days. While Diane finished one of her Ice Drops, so the day was not a loss. She had a mistake in Erin Holloway Moseley's Josephine Chain Square Motif done in size 20 Lizbeth #131, Vineyard Harvest, and she was just going to continue on, but in the end she decided to start again and finally had success on the third try. Her little tree of Ice Drops is full so now this batch of Ice Drops is safely tucked away in a little tin ready for the holidays. She started another right away using a cat's eye cabochon that she found on Etsy, but the cat's eye doesn't show up on this orange gem. Barbara gave them glass gems with the little floaty things in them and whatever they're called it still looks pretty.

Fox used AlenAleaDesign HDT, #40, and a Nancy Tracy pattern to make this adorable sock edging. Here's the pair done, photographed and mailed.

Marie found that this round of her doily tatted fast. Round 6 was pretty quick too. She's finished round 7 and the next rounds will be in the same colour.

Muskaan is making progress on her doily a snowflake morphed into a motif. She has found that it's not enough to just tat the next round, she has to consider the one after it and how it will connect. The tiny shamrock is Simple Shamrock earrings pattern is by Stephanie Wilson from the 52 Earrings Project. Rounds 5 and 6 of her doily are done with some of her design thoughts posted.

Wanda shows us the costume she wore for Palmetto Tat Days. She didn't have a lot of time to work on her costume since she didn't decide to attend until the last minute. Her outfit includes tatted earrings, tatting on the sleeves, a tatted fascinator, tatted cuffs and tatted leggings.
