Earrings, Necklace, Snowflakes, Edging and Doily

Cigdem went through a lot of trial and error to create Carnelian necklace and earring set using a combination of Perle Iris thread in a variegated amber brown colour and DMC thread in a solid amber colour, along with natural carnelian and delica beads.

Diane tatted Doodad Snowflake #4 with 3 beads in place of each of the picots. Another version of Doodad Snowflake #4 with only one bead on the picots. Instead of tatting a variation of Doodad Snowflake #4, she managed to tat a variation of Doodad Snowflake #2. At least she didn't tat a snowflake that's identical to another. Real snowflakes are all unique.

Fox finished her edging and has it attached to the hanky. The lace and the fabric are a perfect compliment to one another. This cute little snowflake is a pattern from Frivole. The last 2 rows of ring and chain have made this doily pattern quite sturdy. Now she's taking a short break from the doily to practice some daisy picots. Céleste, Frivole's recent snowflake pattern was tatted with the very fine, YLI quilting thread, that Diane sent her. Very pretty, But YIKES! very teeny!

Kristen was working on the Knobby Snowflake from Christmas Angles and other Tatting Patterns and she was going to stop here, but a TV watching marathon gave her enough time to complete it. Even the dog got in on the act. An abbreviated form of Snowflake 1 from Festive Snowflakes and Ornaments was the result of running out of thread on the shuttle. Some green thread left on a shuttle was an invitation to make the other thistle motif from Mastering Tatting. Hubby was commandeered to frizzle a few of the thistles. True love is a hubby who is a facilitator. The results of the corporate effort is a lovely piece of lace.

Margaret tatted Wheel of Nine Rings, from the book Christmas Angels and other Tatting Patterns by Monica Hahn in Lizbeth size 20 thread. The Five Inch snowflake is from the book Easy Tatting, but she feels like it's too open and floppy. One of her favourite designs is the Fluffy Snowflake by  Wally Sosa. She used Turkish Oren Bayan Perle no 8 thread, which makes a really lovely fluffy look when frayed.

Marie used Lizbeth, size 20, Seafoam Green to make Icelandic Owl earrings.

Martha tatted the 5th Day of December by Lene Bjorn from 24 Snowflakes in Tatting.

Wanda needed a flurry of snowflakes in a hurry, so she wanted a simpler easier pattern. Starting with a fixture in the middle helps and this charming little snowflake has Josephine knots as well as rings around the outside for interest. The first trial wasn't going to work with the stitch count she was using, so she just modified it into a bell. Another snowflake missed the JKs but still turned out all right as you can see in the side by side comparison.

Snowflakes, Earrings and Medallions

mb duke found some wrapping paper that reminds her of tatted snowflakes. These tatted snowflakes she has mounted on cards so they can be given as gifts and removed from the card to put on the tree.

Linda has made some simple gifts. Scissor pouches with tatted medallions and picot gauges, along with a pair of tatted earrings using Kendra Goodnow's pattern from a Handy Hands newsletter.

Diane tatted her Doodad Snowflake #4. She likes her patterns because they are quick and easy to do, leaving her time for her doily.

Kristen received some Lizbeth Scottish Thistle thread from Fox. It wasn't a colour she would have gone for herself, but she really liked it especially for this pattern. It's an interesting colour for a "snowflake" and she wouldn't normally fray the picots, but for this pattern it works. Every once in a while it pays to get out of the comfort zone and work with different colours and different techniques.

Margaret tatted Diane's Doodad snowflake although the only doodad she could find didn't create quite the same effect.

Marie is still tweaking the pattern for the Owl Earrings, this time by tatting the beaks in gold thread.

Earrings, Cross, Snowflakes, Doily and Edging

Cigdem used a gold faceted rondelle as a centre pieces for these tatted earrings done in gold metallic polyester thread.

Julie shares with us a green and gold cross tatted by her grandmother, which had been made for her husband. Julie's grandmother tatted and gifted a lot of cross bookmarks, what kind of treasures that you have tatted will other people find when you are gone?

Diane tatted another variation of Doodad snowflake #3 but used 2 beads on the inside rings. She's not sure that she likes the effect as much as 3 beads.

Fox is using medium green for this round of the doily, since she didn't have any dark green although, the thread is hard on her hands and has caused her thumbs to split. The doily is still growing, but she's going to have to put it aside for a while and allow her hands to heal. The hanky edging in Sulky Blendable Caramel Apple is as yummy as it's name.

Kristen needed to clear off some shuttles so these snowflakes are blue. The Unique Snowflake from the book Tatted Snowflakes came out with larger that expected spaces even though she used a gauge. Beaded Snowflake from the same book came out more tree worthy. This 5-point snowflake based on Snowflake 3 from Festive Snowflakes and Ornaments is the result of running out of thread.

Margaret's countdown to Christmas continues with the third day of December from the book 24 Snowflakes in Tatting by Lene Bjorn tatted in Lizbeth size 20. Then there's Bree's snowflake No 14, tatted in Lizbeth size 20.

Marie made another pair of owl earrings but gave them darker eyes.  Sally's new 11.12.13 Snowflake was tatted in variegated thread with a modified stitch count to accommodate the change in thread and bead size.

Snowflakes, Bookmarks, Doily, Motifs and Earrings

Julie has decided to tat some snowflakes and started with the simple snowflake on my blog. That was followed by Nancy Tracy's Layered Tatted Snowflake. Then she came across a bookmark done by her grandmother and had to put aside snowflakes long enough to tat one for herself. She went back to snowflakes tatting my 2009 Merry Christmas Snowflake.

Diane's next adaptation of Doodad Snowflake #3 has beads on the outer rings. The following one was made without the doodad in the middle.

Fox used Altin Basak size 50 to tat Celeste, without the beads and it was easier to work the second time. She finds that the colour combination on the doily is working for her and is very spring like and ideal for a February gift, however the HDT is slowly running out, and might become a problem.

Kristen managed a whirlwind trip home and got to see her new niece all decked out in her pink tatted bib. This little motif done in perfect Quilter and DMC 80 was all the tatting she did while away. Fox sent her some Sunlit Shuttles which she put to work tatting the Tatted Roman Cross in size 30 Cebélia. She decided to practice her new skills and tat a thank you at the same time with this beaded sunburst.

Margaret is still tatting snowflakes for Christmas. This one is  the Eighth day of December from the book 24 Snowflakes in Tatting, done in Lizbeth size 20. From the little Russian Tatting book Kristen sent her, she tatted this one which is number 11 in her countdown.

Marie tatted the Shuttlebird Weekly challenge #17 which is Jane's, Small Motif, done in Lizbeth, size 20, Dk Purple. Tattbugg's, Owl for Needle Tatting was tatted with Lizbeth, size 20, gold.

Mistene has decided that since she finished her first 25 motifs she's going to start again beginning with Kencana by Jon Yusoff done in Lizbeth size 20, Color 688, Seagreen Dark. Mustika was done in a discontinued thread, Flora size 20, Color 60. Delima was done in Lizbeth size 20, Color 628, Salmon Medium.

Wanda tatted a variation of her Christmas Snowflake 2010 in Lizbeth size 20, White #601. The pattern is available on her site. Her December Star 2011 was converted to a snowflake and tatted in Lizbeth size 20 Christmas Red with gold beads.
