Motifs, Butterflies and Murder?

Tattips took an edging pattern found in "Star Books #66 - Crochet and Edgings" and turned it into a triangular motif in lavender Cebelia size 20 so that she can use it in a variety of ways.
Tatteristic used both shuttle and needle tatting to create this butterfly. She already had her shuttles wound CTM and decided to use the needles for the inner sections of the wings. The threads are Lizbeth size 20 Turquoise Twist 142 and Spring Green 680.
Ann has been inspired by Fox's Bonnicide post title to suggest a whole tatting themed murder mystery. (No tatting was harmed in either post.)
Ellen has received some lovely goodies from Sweden including some wonderful tatting.
Fox has put aside the bonnet she wanted to kill in favour of some brilliant flame coloured HDT. She tatted the motif from "The Tatted Artistry of Teiko Fujito" in "Flame Lantana". Jeff did some test tatting for Sherry, "Amberlynn" was tatted with Lizbeth size 20 thread in colour #129 Purple Splendor. "Swirls" was tatted in Lizbeth size 20, in colour #125 Seascape. "Rose Garden", by Mary Konior, from her book "Tatting in Lace" was tatted in DMC Cordonnet size 20 thread in white.

Butterflies, Crosses, Doilies, Baby Bonnet and Butterflies

Shanan was busy with family issues and forgot to post days 10 and 11 of TIAS. Here is her finished rooster. Steph has tatted another of Sherry's delightful butterflies. This one is called Opal and was tatted in Marilee's "Purple Pansy", size 80. Wouldn't it make a gorgeous pendant?
Bonnie has tatted some crosses in memory of a friend's mother. Wendy's Split Ring Cross made with Marilee's size 50 Nicobar Pigeon HDT and Elizabeth's Lace's Tatted Cross Pattern made with the same thread.
Anne has been making progress and has only 11 more motifs to go. It's looking wonderful and I can't wait to see it completed. Diane has row 5 of the "Hostess Piece: Placemat" from Mary Konior's Tatting Patterns completed and it's looking wonderful. Her daughter and granddaughter may have to fight over this one.
Fox is having more problems than just boredom with this baby bonnet. It appears that the pattern may be wrong because she doesn't seem to end up with the same number of rings as the pattern says she should have. Has anyone done this pattern so that they can shed some light on it? Martha used a very big shuttle from Nina Libin designed for tatting with beads for this project. It's just a tease, because there is more to it than what we can see here. Tatters like to tease!

Heart's Desire, Peacock Bookmark and Diamond

Cindy tatted Susan Fuller's "Heart's Desire" in Size 40 Lizbeth Carribean. The Peacock Feather Bookmark by Wally Sosa's a tail that doesn't look quite like the one in the picture. It's done in Wedgewood Dark and Spring Fling Lizbeth threads size 40.

Steph has tatted "Diamond", another butterfly from Sherry's latest book. The thread is vintage J&P Coats in size 70, color 177.

Motifs, Hearts,Butterflies and Baby Bonnet

Tattips made Mary Konior's Patchwork motif in Lizbeth Sherbet Delight, size 20. Her next piece is her version of a motif she saw on the internet. The design is from the Design-Tat class and was created by Pat Tinney. Tattips worked it in Lizbeth Tutti Fruti and Hakelgarn white size 20.

The new Design-Tat class will start the first week of March. Email me if you are interested in joining.
Agasunset has posted the same motif tatted both by shuttle and by needle and it shows that the end results are the same no matter how they are made. Unfortunately she has been verbally assaulted by someone who is ignorant enough to consider needle tatting inferior. I thought we had outgrown that attitude, but apparently someone didn't get the memo. Needle or shuttle, it doesn't make any difference, we all make lace and enjoy what we make. Liyarra tatted the Catherine Wheel Split Ring Motif designed by Julie Patterson from the Australian Tatters Guild newsletter and created in Altin Basak green 50.
NancyD attended the Tuesday tatting group and their guest instructor was Gina Butler who taught a class on SSSR the single shuttle split ring. They worked on a pattern by Gina called "Heart Strings"

Steph injured her already ailing right elbow and hasn't been able to tat for weeks. After a pain free week she was finally able to tackle one of the lovely flutterbys from Sherry's new book. This little treasure is called "Lilly" and was tatted in Marilee's "Vibrato" in size 80. Gorgeous pattern, gorgeous thread. Isn't it just precious? Fox is getting to the outer edges of the bonnet where there's a lot of tatting without a lot of apparent growth and she's beginning to wonder if the finished piece is going to look like a jam jar cover on the baby. I think the baby will look super cute in it.

M has tatted "Heart's Desire" by Susan K Fuller in Lizbeth 20, col 140, Country Grape Swirl. The colour is a lot like Purple Splendor but she likes Purple Splendor better.
Marty bought a bunch of Christmas ornaments with the intention of tatting 25 ball covers. So far she has done - 1 - this one which is an adaptation of Iris Niebach's "Beatrice" from "Tatted Doilies". Tatted in a very dark green Häkelgarn, size 20.
Sherry finally shows us what she has been working on. It's a special butterfly called "Hope" tatted in cotton and silk. She is working on the pattern to share with us later.
Shirl has just completed Gertie, a porcelain doll encased in her tatted lace shrine.

Earrings, Bracelets, and Sneak Peeks

Agasunset started with a bracelet and made earrings to match, but they needed something to weight them down so that the dangled and Jet black Swarowski's crystals was a perfect choice. More crystals adorned the choker giving her a complete set. Two designs laying on top of one another inspired this lovely slave bracelet.

Heather didn't get much tatting done except for this design, the same as the earlier pattern, but in black.
Sherry is showing another sneak peek.

Hearts, Windmills and Treble Clef

Fox finishes her 25 with Sherry's Musical Note and Martha Ess's Tiny Forsythia Heart from "Tat's Amoré". Wanda celebrated Tatting Tea Tuesday with a lovely story about pancakes and races to go with her tatting. Check out the heart shaped tea cup on the tatted doily.
Jeff was finally able to procure the Konior book he has been looking for through Abebooks and recommends it as a source for hard to find tatting books. He has progressed on the Windmills doily and is pleased that the slope and roll join has allowed him to use the variegated thread without the dreaded colour spot problem. A side effect of this join is that it has created a wonderful textured effect on the back of the motif that highlights the windmill design. Cool!
Marty is showing us the hearts she did for the Valentine's exchange. The Butterfly Heart bookmark is from Dianna Stevens' Animal Bookmarks: A Tatted Zoo. The ornament is an adaptation of Iris Niebach's Cornelia from Tatted Doilies. The last heart is the one Marty created for the Design-Tat course which she did again because this one has a pair of mismatched rings. Just a reminder, there will be a new course starting in March.

Bookmarks, Hearts, Doily, Pendant, and Motifs

Agasunset shows us how she used some vintage patterns and modified them to make new creations. The end of an oval doily became the basis for a beaded necklace and a curtain pull became a pendant. IsDihara has modified Lyn Morton's Margaret motif from "Tatting Patterns" into a nine-sided motif worked in Tatskool's ChocoRaspberry HDT and so far it's working. Kelly has tatted this doily called "Saturn Ring" in size 20 Royal thread and it measures about 10.5".
Sherry is giving us a sneak peek without any hints. By the way you might want to check her blog for the new giveaway rules.
Shirley has been tatting without blogging so we get to see all the eye candy at once. The butterfly bookmark by Jane Eborall done in Lizbeth size 20, color #119. The four-ring snowflake by Wendy Durell used red thread Clark's O.N.T. size 30, color #126 with white Cebelia DMC. The same threads were used for the bookmark from "Tat Marks the Spot" by Karey Solomon called Circle of Friends. The hearts are from "Tat's Amore" by Martha Ess. The white heart is Antique Rose Heart and is done with Cebelia DMC size 30. The pink one is "Scallop Shell Heart" and uses Cebelia DMC size 30 in color #818.
