Doilies, Necklace, Motifs and Snowflakes

The Guidelines

1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing us to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.
2. There is no need to advise the Challenge Team to let let us know when you've added things to your blog. We check all of the blogs when we do an update.
3. We can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. We don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell us when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. We know from past experience that the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let us know so that we continue to check your blog on a regular basis.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.
6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.

Sue is working on her necklace and needs to find the ball of thread because one of the shuttles is running out. She's been keeping the work in progress for her hat in a little box to make sure the thread stays clean. Here's the motif for the crown of the hat finished.

Diane used size 20 Lizbeth, #171 Green Coral Sea to tat the first pattern from Tatting by Myra Piper, which she has called a snowflake although it has 9 arms instead of 6. Some of Diane's students have been afflicted with shuttle acquisition syndrome, but their parents don't seem to mind. The students are still practicing their tatting and receiving their reward motifs and some have taken to adding bling their shuttles. Diane has been giving them a floss bobbin with each shuttle so they have plenty of thread to work with when they get home. She has finished the second motif in Myra Piper's book, also tatted in size 20 Lizbeth, #171 Green Coral Sea.

Kristen's tatting had a lot of ends to hide and when several people  suggested that she learn how to do split chains and supplied links to helpful videos, she forged ahead. First there was a split chain. The there was an SSSR and now she's on to finishing Karey Solomon's Plain and Fancy doily.

Marie tatted the Star Doily from an old Workbasket magazine using pearl cotton #12 for a finished size of 9 inches.

Dolphins, Bookmarks, Necklaces, Motifs, Tardis, Butterflies, Hearts, Snowflake, Doilies, Angel, Flowers and Bracelet

Lilas has mounted some flannel backed fabric in frames to create a display stand for her tatted necklace.

Sue started the hat from Kirstine Nikolajsen and Inge Lise Nikolajsen's 3rd Tatting Book, but misreading the instructions meant she had to start again. The second try she forget to join the outer rings. Hopefully the third try will work. The necklace is still in process. Her try at Celtic tatting seems to have taken an odd turn, so she'll give it another try.

Phyllis received a request to make a Tardis and used Anne Bruvold's pattern, but was informed that a telephone box only has 2 holes, so she modified the pattern. (I thought it was a police box.) She used her own hand dyed size 80 thread for the project.

Lelia was at a local quilt show and picked up some 12 wt Sulky thread along with this hanky with the Hens and Chicks border. She added beads on the core thread to make lots of butterfly doodles to give away on International Tatting Day. She used Lizbeth size 20 in Col 139, Col 131, + Col 117; and Flora 20, Col 13 and her own pattern for these. The lovely hearts are based on Grace Tan's pattern, Small Trefoil Heart and worked in Lizbeth size 20, Col. 139. The three yellow/creme butterflies are from A Summer's Memory - Four Butterfly Patterns from Mary Maynard done in Flora 20, Color 13.

Nancy decided to celebrate International Tatting Day by going the the library to tat. She used Lizbeth size 20 Scottish Thistle to tat the Sweet Rose Snowflake pattern by Jon Yusoff.

Carrie posted a tatted heart with love on International Tatting Day.

Diane's students are tatting away and getting their reward motifs. She thinks these 2 might be her fifth grade students. Diane has finished the next round of her Russian doily. Paige has finished a large ring and earned another shuttle and a bookmark. One of the boys chose this pretty pink motif, possibly for his mom. A first attempt at picots earned this eager tatter a beautiful little swan. Grace has been wanting this little tatted fairy for a long time. Owen started to learn rings today.

Margaret used Pineapple Parfait to tat a bright sun pattern called "Cool" by Nancy Tracy with big bold sunglasses done in black.

Marie received lots of tatted goodies in her exchange from the Needle Tatting Forum. The pattern from Mark, called "Hilda's 3-D Angel"  called for size 40 thread, but she used size 20 crochet thread and it is going on the top of her little Christmas tree. Irene Woo's Butterfly Heart done in Lizbeth size 20 Cranberry Bush, was made into a bookmark.

Martha had lots of fun making all those 1915 Priscilla motifs in size 20 and they made nice big pieces. Sewing down billions of picots to make a quilt square, wasn't so much fun, but it sure is pretty.

HisKid tatted the Wave bookmark pattern from Tatted Bookmarks Needle & Shuttle edited by Barbara Foster in tatted in size 40 Fairy Dust HDT and it will make her a nice bracelet.

Wanda tatted various paperclip bookmarks, including 'Dove' by JoAnn Stearns, 'Little Fishies' by Sharon Albers, her own 'Bunny Face' on her Patterns page, her 'Basket Paperclip Doodle' also on her Patterns page and 'Butterfly' from an anonymous source along with a decorated button  doodle and a Flowers doodle. She didn't see a Basket doodle, so this one she made herself.
