Trees, Flowers, Hairclips, Dragon, Doilies, Motifs, Edging, Snowflake and Lady

Batty Tatter is using water colour paper and a glue stick to create these seasonal tree pictures. She added a sparkly hoar  frost effect to the winter tree which has a cute little owl on one of the branches. Now I want to make my own set.

Erisnyx used the Tatted Rose, by Linda S Davies to makes these hairclips in size 10 thread, in her niece's favorite colours for a wonderful birthday gift. She found the Chinese Dragon by Anne Bruvold monotonous to tat, but this is the first time she tried hiding the ends by weaving them in and she likes the effect.

Claire has started Renulek's Spring Doily in Lizbeth size 20, colour Country Turquoise Med #616.

Diane's friend Denise dropped off all of these motifs for her class. That's a good thing because Paige has a lot of tatting to show off and she got to select a heart as her reward. Delaney figured out how to switch shuttles to create a pattern, which was even more challenging as she was using a bobbin for the second shuttle. She chose a bookmark as her prize. Diane's hanky edging is growing slowly but surely.

Fox saw Stephanie's Lucky Clover doily and had to give it a try, but a miscount at the beginning and some strange inner picots has her thinking she may start again.

Margaret used a snowflake that didn't hang right, added some blue beads and an offset ribbon for this blue pincushion. The Sunbonnet Sue Motif designed by Darlene Polachic was tatted with white and Christmas thread Lizbeth no 20. A tatted strip for grass using Flora no 20, a wee butterfly and a few flowers with bead centres made this yellow pincushion into a garden scene.

Marie has one more round to go on this large doily.

TIAS, Doilies, Motifs and Bookmarks

Batty Tatter has created a scenic background for her TIAS sailboat.

Stephanie has finished the second round of the Luck clover doily from the Blomqvist and Persson book.

Diane used up the Flora thread on her shuttles tatting small motifs from Patti Duff's Minitats. She usually prefers to work with 2 shuttles, but using only one gave her practice using SLT. Stephanie sent her an envelope of motifs to share with her students, but she forgot to take a collective picture. Alicia earned a Stumpy bookmark. Shelby was the first to choose from the new pieces from Stephanie, she fell in love with this giraffe.

Fox is up to the end of the 7th row on Renulek's Spring doily.

Marie tatted this brown cross from Lene Bjorn's, Tatted Bookmarks: Crosses, with size 80 tatting thread. Another cross from the same book, in peach, was tatted with size 80 crochet thread and a strand of copper sewing thread.

The Guidelines

1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing us to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.
2. There is no need to advise the Challenge Team to let let us know when you've added things to your blog. We check all of the blogs when we do an update.
3. We can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. We don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell us when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. We know from past experience that the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let us know so that we continue to check your blog on a regular basis.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.
6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.

Batty Tatter has made spring and summer trees, so now it's time for fall, for which she has plans to create water colour backgrounds. Then she did another of Jane's TIAS sailing ships.

Lilas tatted this double layer rosette flower and then provided a tutorial so others can make it. Her finished flowers done in used Cébélia size 30, with little beads and amethyst pearls make lovely little floral earrings for spring.

Stephanie started the Lucky Clover doily again in Sulky Cotton Blendables #12-wt, color 4015, which she likes much better.

Claire made the famous giraffe by Jane Eborall as a Christmas gift for a friend and found that this pattern which she did in Lizbeth Falling leaves size 20 took a lot of concentration.

Cigdem has turned simple edging patterns into an elegant beaded  necklace and bracelet set.

mb duke is using Lizbeth size 40 in 675 Fern Green Medium, 136 Autumn Spice, and 673 Terra Cotta to make Renulek's Spring Napkin, to match the curtains in her living room. Even before it's finished, this doily has a home.

Grace initially tatted this design without beads, but she found that the beads gave it a bit of an outline to draw the eye. She added jump rings a neck cord and a crystal attached for weight at the bottom to make a necklace for her sister's birthday.

Fox received LaCossette's amazing tartan shuttle and immediately loaded it up with Venus #80 thread to work on Frivole’s heart, but distracted by a lively discussion and uncooperative thread it wasn't successful. The second try was much better, although she isn't happy with the chains. She gave her Doctor Who shuttle a try. It looks like it works quite well. She thinks the most recent heart isn't as clunky.

Kristen finally got the mast finished on her TIAS sailboat and set it on it's journey. She tried out Buttercup by Hannah Crowle from the Ring of Tatters 30th Anniversary Book of Patterns, but didn't tat it quite as written. The first motif of Adelheid Dangela's Doily was abandoned as the thread seems to have become soiled. Jane's Badger bookmark is giving her fits because she can't get the joins to work properly. Getting rid of that colour spot is causing her headaches with half of it looking right on the front and half looking right on the back.

Margaret used up some of her tatting bits to make the decorations on the pincushion she created. The first one has a snowflake that went wrong and some blue 3D flowers, with a bit of ribbon and some embroidered trails. This yellow one was next, a piece of tatting which was going to be a square motif, that never got finished, which was tatted in Lizbeth size 20, enhanced by a small piece of green ribbon with a 3D flower tatted in Turkish Oren Bryan size 8 with a bead in the middle.

Marie tatted these earrings made with size 20 thread using a pattern from an old Work Basket. She used her new Celtic shuttles to tat a Celtic Knot Christmas Tree Heart, by Ruth Perry in size 40 thread. They worked, but were a little too tight. She outgrew her changeable earring box but the new one has ample room.

Sue tatted the Wedding or Anniversary Cross by Dee Powell from the book Tatted Bookmarks Needle & Shuttle edited by Barbara Foster, in DMC gold metallic thread and Lizbeth Snow White size 20. She received this pin from Fox and highlighted it a bit with some tatting in size 40 HDT from Jess. She did another suncatcher for her mother-in-law's friend using Sue Hanson's Val's Suncatcher pattern, tatting in size 40 Lizbeth Tropical Punch with kid's pink beads.
