Doilies, Flowers, Motifs, Crown, Edging, Bracelet, Earrings, Cicada and Cross

mb duke finally finished the Jan Stawasz doily XII in size 20 Lizbeth white, without a single mistake.

Meryl has the Honey Napkin done up to to round 13 and it's about 44 cm across and almost too big to photograph on her usual desk. Just 5 more rounds to go. These 3 pansies were worked in different methods which caused her varying levels of frustration while working. She started Mary Konior's Spinning Wheel Glass Mat in Anchor multicolour perle 8 colour #1325 but ran out of thread which was going to require cutting the thread to re-load the shuttle, so she put it aside for months, finally undoing it and starting again; pairing the multicolour thread with DMC perle 8 black for the chains for a stained glass effect.

Jane undid and re-tatted the first round of Martha's Two Hearts as One, but it still doesn't seem right and she's determined to just carry on.

Ginny is working on a doily from Renulek's blog that she thinks is called Snow.

Julie chose her anniversary to share pictures of the tatted crown her grandmother did for her wedding. She also wore her grandmother's cameo on a tatted ribbon. Treasured tatting the survives the test of time.

Kristen is working through smaller motifs in a Russian tatting book in preparation for trying the vest on the front cover. It's challenging because the stitch count shown doesn't seem to match the pictures. Using up a thread end resulted in a funny little house and a decent row of split rings. She's also wondering if she should bother to drop the shuttle through the ring or not.

Cindy has round 10 of the Jan Stawasz doily XI she's working on almost finished.

Fox has persevered and is actually enjoying the Valdani thread to tat Jon's pattern. She was first persuaded to ignore the mistakes, then she was persuaded to treat it as a practice piece and start again. She has decided she loves this colour of thread which she initially thought was losing it's sheen, but it seems to be golden and glisten as she tats it. Here's the two samples side by side and she can really see progress in it. She took a break on the edging to try a Middia pattern that Frivole posted about with some beads of course. Then she thought she might try it again with lock join braid for the chains. Here's the Bessie Attenborough design after blocking.

Jess started the center of this doily, just to show off the new Sugar Plum HDT. She has plans to finish it like the one she did last year.

Margaret made the green bracelet is from a pattern in the Book Occhi Schiffchenspitze Frivolite using Lizbeth thread Christmas green mix no 20. Classic Edge Bracelet by Marilee Rockley was made in the same thread. Several pair of crown earrings were made from the pattern from Joelle's blog. The back of the earrings is shown in Rainbow Taffy Lizbeth thread no 20. The cross earrings used Coats pink no 20 which she had on the shuttles.

Mica ordered this green thread for another project, but it was perfect for tatting a cicada.

Michelle is still making graduation crosses. This is the Split Ring Cross.

Flag, Motifs, Bookmarks, Doilies, Edging, Pendants, Necklace and Pin

mb duke has her tatted flag done in time for July 4th.

Barbara tatted Ratnawilis from Jon Yusoff's Elegant Tatting Gems in Lizbeth #20, thread #140 called Country Grape Swirl. She has plans to do it again in a solid colour.

Jane added tatted motifs to facecloths to go with the towels she's been working on.

Kristen finds two colour tatting easier with an shuttle so she felt confident tackling Dee Powell's American Flag bookmark from Tatted Bookmarks. Another bookmark also by Dee Powell is Candle which Kristen tatted in a buttercream colour.

Diane tried filming the finishing steps for the Spinning Wheel Glass Mat by Mary Konior, but she wasn't satisfied with the results and opted for step by step still shots. The finished doily is now ready for Ella and the one for Lily can begin.

Fox used the Daiso #40, from Wendy to tat this design from Craft of Tatting by Bessie Attenborough, which she might decide to make larger. After much frustration she felt that she just couldn't use the Valdani she ordered. Then some persuasion prompted her to try again with a differen't pattern and Jon’s Row of Crowns from her blog seems like it might work. It's hard not to keep trying when the thread is such a perfect match to the hanky.

Kathy found a slider with a pair of rings that lets her attach a pendant to it for wearing with a scarf. The slider lets her switch out the pendant to match whichever scarf she wants to wear.

Marie bought some thread that looks like nylon and is about size 10.  Coral Reef Bookmark is the results and one in purples and green.

Michelle has loved Frivole's Les P'tits Oiseaux since she made it available and thought it would be perfect to go with a dress that has a plunging neckline. Sadly it didn't work out as planned. Then she tried Frivole's version of Marilee's beautiful necklace, Newcastle which worked out just right.

Wanda had several patriotic decorations out. The pin on the hat she made for her dad a couple of years ago and the bookmark was made this year in Lizbeth size 20 in
Red, White and Blue.

Lady, Edging, Motifs, Doilies, TIAS, Butterflies, Bookmarks and Earrings

mb duke is drawn to Victorian ladies that are dainty, elegant  and quick to tat, like this one she did in Lizbeth size 20 in Garnet and Ecru. This little lady is from Contemporary Tatting by Judith Connors done in Lizbeth size 20 in Ocean Turquoise Dark for the lady and Island Breeze for the parasol. The tree top is Jungle Greens and the trunk is Fudge Dark.

Jane experimented with folded ring hearts, but she ended up with a right side and a wrong side and couldn't get both rows right side up. The solution is to tat all the hearts on one side and then turn and do the hearts that face the other way. She's doing another edging for a towel and she thinks the last sample might work better. This is a simple edging, folded ring and chain, but she thinks it's quite effective.

Kristen is continuing to practice shuttle tatting, working from Easy Tatting. With each motif she sees some improvement, so she decided to try for a multi row motif and not being sure what to do with her starting ends she tied them onto a paperclip. Some dots on her finger helped get more consistent picot lengths on the second row. some of her needle tatted pieces done earlier include Valerie Square from Eliz Davis' website and Tatting Box' adorable cross pattern. All of these little motifs done in ecru will soon become a mobile.

Diane was asked about finishing the Spinning Wheel glass mat and she has shown how she does it with step by step pictures. When working in one colour she just switches shuttles as she tats, but when working in 2 colours like this one, she uses the shoelace trick at the beginning and end of each spoke. She has plans to do a video to make it clearer.

Margaret caught up with TIAS 2013 which she tatted in Lizbeth thread Pink Parade and Black no 20.

Marie tatted the Shuttlebirds challenge for last week, a butterfly done in Lizbeth, size 20, Springtime and Antique Violet Med. She has been teaching the ladies from church  needle tatting and they have been practicing Catherine Wheel Joins, using a 1" plastic bone ring to create a simple bookmark with size 10 crochet thread.

Orsi has one large project squared away and is now able to get back to designing a necklace.

Sue's daughter is modelling her dream catcher earrings.

Wanda finished the wedding gift she was working on. The wedding colours are green, black and white so Wanda chose  Lizbeth #684 Leaf Green Med and white for the hearts. Then she  added a splash of colour with a few flowers in #613 Golden Yellow Med and #696 Autumn Orange Med and leaves in #138 Leafy Greens. The butterfly is Monica Mancenido's pattern.

Edging, Doilies, Motifs, Knight and Dragon

The Guidelines
1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing us to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.
2. There is no need to advise the Challenge Team to let let us know when you've added things to your blog. We check all of the blogs when we do an update.
3. We can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. We don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell us when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. We know from past experience that the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let us know so that we continue to check your blog on a regular basis.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.
6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.
---------------

Jane has written out her Folded Ring Flower Edging pattern for those who may want to tat it.

Diane's granddaughter wanted an update on her doily which is being worked in Green Coral Sea and Jelly Bean.

Fox is working on a pattern by  Sumi Fujishigi from a Japanese book. She did a little motif with block tatting for practice and is (im)patiently waiting for her Valdani thread to come.

Martha's tiny tatted knight may not be very impressive on his own. But he's ready to valiently slay the dragon and win his lady's hand.
