Edgings, Heart, Bookmarks, Doilies, TIAS, Motifs, Pendants, Necklaces, Snowflakes and Butterfly

Grace has recently learned to tat and she decided to jump in the deep end and join the challenge. For her first pieces she did a hens and chicks edging using some vintage ecru thread left on her grandmother's tatting shuttle the lavender thread is vintage size 80 thread. She tried Jon Yusoff's heart that looks a little like Mickey Mouse's head. Aunt Lydia's red crochet thread size 10 was used for the heart from The Gentle Art of Tatting. The heart on the left is from Learn to Tat by Janette Baker done in size 10 variegated Aunt Lydia's crochet thread with cream Lizbeth in size 10 and on the right is a pattern from The Gentle Art of Tatted Hearts (Rizzo) done in size 10 Lizbeth in Lollipop and cream. She was disappointed in Birgit Phelp's heart until she realized she'd made a mistake. Her later efforts are done DMC cream perle size 8 and Lizbeth Country Grape Light in size 40. Heart o' Daisies from Jon Yusoff's blog has a lot of split rings which she practiced before tatting the heart and found a local lace group that was able to help her out. Chinese Coins, also from Jon's blog includes multiple split rings as well.

Sharon tatted the Plain And Fancy doily design by Karey Solomon which was featured in Tatting Times.

Jane saw Iris Niebach's recent post about pearl tatting which prompted her to do some experimenting.

Marta had an unfinished Christmas tree that she converted into a kite and the results are a charming bookmark.

Ancolie has finished Day 6 of TIAS and it this stage she's not sure if it's a pram or a duck.

Cindy has Days 7,8 and 9 of TIAS done and all she can see is a baby buggy. She tatted Irene Woo's Butterfly Heart to help empty some shuttles.

Diane is finding the size 70 thread she's using for this Mary Konior edging very delicate after working with size 20. She still has a little Raspberry Sorbet left, so she's working on little projects. The pattern for this heart is by Betsy Evans, which is very easy to tat and she used some of the Raspberry Sorbet from Tatskool for it.

Fox tatted Jon’s Johar in what she thinks is Yarnplayer’s HDT size 20. Honey Napkin grows, albeit slowly and it's nearly 2 feet across

Jess has a new colourway that she has tatted a sample for and it needs a name so she's doing a poll looking for answers.

Marie took an old clip earring and tatted around it in size 40 Lizbeth cranberry bush to make a jelly bean shaped pendant. Another Key to my Heart pendant done in Lizbeth, size 20, antique violet medium. This Ocean Sunset necklace was tatted with a sample thread from Hand Hands using a pattern by Jon Yusoff.

Mica tatted Jon's Quantiesque snowflake again, this time using yellow-gold beads, but about half way through she thought that it might  have looked better if she had used ecru thread, although she has no plans to re-tat it.

Orsi did her heart pendant necklace in black and it's just a lovely as it was in white.

Sherry added some new hook pens to her stock. An old hat was dressed up with Lilly. a tatted butterfly from her book .

Wanda has tatted more earring hearts using Kelly's pattern in Lizbeth #622 size 20 with pink seed beads for her daughter. Then she did a set  in DMC size 8 Pearl cotton green for her daughter's co-worker. Here's TIAS 2013 Day 9 which looks like it's a baby buggy, or pram if you're on the other side of the pond. Or baby carriage if you're Canadian and want to be picky.

The Guidelines

1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing us to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.
2. There is no need to advise the Challenge Team to let let us know when you've added things to your blog. We check all of the blogs when we do an update.
3. We can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. We don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell us when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. We know from past experience that the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let us know so that we continue to check your blog on a regular basis.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.
6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.

Sharon has Day 7 of Jane Eborall's TIAS completed. The lovely bookmark is made of rings and split rings and it's from Julie Patterson's Just Marking Tomes, tatted in what Sharon thinks is a Flora thread.

Gwen's first venture into using findings in her tatting wasn't as successful as she had hoped, maybe because of her choice of design. The next design worked out much better and she even added beads to the third. She's playing catch up on the TIAS using Lizbeth size 20 color 115.

Jane used size 20 white and size 40 yellow thread to make what looks like a Michaelmas daisy flower. Thanks to Jon Yusoff for pointing the way to Martha Ess's tutorial about folded rings for her next challenge, she has changed direction in chains before, but didn't realize it could be done in rings too. She accidentally joined to the wrong place on Day 8 of TIAS and had to undo and join in the correct location. Here's Day 9 completed.

Nancy tatted earrings and a motif in Ocean Blue Turquoise with blue and brown beads and a brown cord to tie it all together.

Bree tatted snowflakes done in Lizbeth size 20 snow white with pinkish red beads and a star with pretty purple beads.

Diane tatted Day 8 of Jane's TIAS. She's also test-tatting "Romantic Hexagon" by Gunhild. She made a little progress with my Hen and Chick edging in size 70 thread. She's on the 7th spoke of her Spinning Wheel glass mat from Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior and doesn't even need a pattern for it. She finished Gunhild's Romantic Hexagon done in size 20 Lizbeth #124, Spring Garden and #676, Leaf Green Dark. Here's the Spinning Wheel almost finished, and here it is done. Day 9 of Jane's TIAS is looking like a baby buggy.

Fox finds size 10 like trying to tat with rope and requires refilling shuttles with a lot of requisite ends to hide, but thankfully her granddaughter was enthralled with the picture of the finished product. Day 9 of TIAS was completed and Jon's lovely Johar design is being tatted with thread from Snowy.

Jess tatted another one of her more glorified Starflowers in Periwinkle and Seagreen Light size 40 Lizbeth. Mauvelous Rose is the name of the colour of HDT she used for this one.

Marie used findings from an old, broken necklace and pearl cotton #12 to tat these green earrings.

Orsi created a sweetheart choker using size 20 thread that's pretty in colour and elegant in white.

Sherry provides a sneak peek at what she will be teaching at Shuttlebird's this year, a necklace using encapsulation, branching encapsulation and spiral chains. She will also be teaching Gwen's Angel, which is tatted continuously using folded rings and some 3D flowers that can be completed in class.

Sue was the lucky winner of Fox's moving giveaway with lots of tatting treasures. Then there is this little guy, from Jane Eborall's pattern tatted in size 40 Coral Reef HDT from Tatskool.
