Angel, Bookmarks, Pendant and Earrings, TIAS

Katherinne needed to clear out her shuttles and tatted up some bits. "Dream" by YarnPlayer, was made in black Lizbeth size 20 with some copper seed beads as was the small butterfly. The purple butterflies were tatted with Omega size 20. The Merry Christmas Snowflake was tatted in Black Friday, Arctic Slushie, and Choco Strawberry Swirl. The assortment of pieces includes the "Ruffled Heart" designed by Vicki Clarke as well as daisies, butterflies, and a cherry blossom, which is the beginning of a larger project.
Liz has jumped into the TIAS and has also made her first serious foray into tatting split rings.

Vanessa was ready to give up on the TIAS before she started, but after she saw a few live samples she had to give it a try.

Shirl has begun the challenge again with a tiny motif using DMC 80 cotton thread in Ecru on a linen background that fits neatly onto a 1/8 inch button.

Shirley finishes her challenge with Mark's Christina's Angel done with her stash of size 70 thread in white and variegated blue color #13. The small bookmarks are from Mary Maynard's "Tatting Rings of Flowers" with added tails to make the bookmarks. The blue one is a variation of flower #43 done in Flora color #55, the pink one is flower #46 in Flora color #62 and the third is flower #57 in Lizbeth #121 which are all size 20. The other two bookmarks are from Jane Eborall's Funny Face bookmark which she has done in various colours matching her friends assorted cats. The first one here is all white with big blue eyes and a pink nose. The other one is grey, cordonnet special color #318, and white, both size 30 thread. That finishes off her first 25 so that she can start again. Bonnie is heading out on a cruise and will be out of touch for a few days, so Jane shared the next steps of TIAS with her which were printed off by a friend and put in separate envelopes for each day. That way she can keep up with everyone else while she is away.

Alan was introduced to tatting with silver wire and he created this lovely pendant and earring set using the centre of the "Arches" doily. Diane started the TIAS but after multiple failed attempts at doing split rings she put it aside. It's amazing how feeling sick destroys your concentration. With her next attempt at split rings she finally got it. Now to attempt the TIAS again. Heather grabbed a random book on a random page for her Wakky Wednesday challenge and got ready to tat. Her first obstacle was learning how to do a SCMR which she had never attempted before. After hitting a few demo pages, she finished Floret from Jon's Tatted Snowflake Collection. It was so much fun she did it again with beads. This is the second installment of TIAS. AND while she is on a roll, Heather has mastered not only SCMR's but also block tatting. Way to go!

Heart, Stained Glass Motif, Leaf and TIAS

Tatteristic begins the challenge with Spring Green Lizbeth Size 20 on the Tatted Heart from Handy Hands Tatting. Ann needed a refresher course on split rings to do the TIAS, but after hiding her starting ends she was off and running. Katie used her own HDT & black Lizbeth both size 20 to try out the stained-glass idea on this square pattern from http://free-tatting.com/ Vanessa tatted this little design from Ruth Scharf's book Occhi in Altin Basak She really likes the texture of the motif but next time it will be in green, because it looks like a leaf. If there were a pair of them they'd make nice angel wings.
Wanda has joined the TIAS group as well using Lizbeth threads in size 20 Caribbean, Victorian Red and Black.

Hanky, Heart, Name Tag and TIAS

Katie has decide that since she started the challenge late in 2009 that she'd start over for the new year. This is the 2nd hanky she did using the same clover edging in Lizbeth size 40 & the color is #117 Country Side. Steph tatted one of Teri Dusenbury's hearts called Nellie's Heart in deep purple Flora thread size 20. Like many tatters Steph has tatted the first instalment of Jane's new TIAS.
Ellen tatted a name for a little girl who loves pink to go on her school bag. Heather is also doing Jane's TIAS and she's proud of the fact that she's doing it with shuttles. For tatting Tea Tuesday she has finished two lovely beaded motifs with teeny tiny hex beads.

Star, Hearts and Earrings

Shanan joins the challenge with this pretty medallion from a ball of red size 20 “Aunt Lydia’s” crochet thread.It's a modified pattern from the June 1971 Workbasket, but she used split rings and split chains to make it easier to climb out of one round and into the next. Her next entry is a tiny motif star that she shares the pattern for, also made in the same thread. Fox made this sweet beaded motif and gave it to a friend.
Linda tatted the Clover Drop Hearts from Be-stitched tatted with DMC Cebelia #30, 816 Cranberry-DK. The heart on the right has a pearl bead in the center and pearl beads on the bottom ring. Krystle shows us the earrings she made with swarovski crystals for her sister for Christmas.

A new year of tatting

The Guidelines

Since this is a new year and we have quite a few new participants here are the guidelines for the challenge.

1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing us to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog. We are interested in tatting not pictures of your children. Well, that's not true, we're interested in everything about you, but we try to confine it to tatting so as not to raise any privacy issues.
2. There is no need to advise the Challenge Team to let let us know when you've added things to your blog. We check all of the blogs when we do an update.
3. We can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. We don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell us when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. We know from past experience that the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let us know so that we continue to check your blog on a regular basis.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.

Isabel has joined the challenge and her silver tatted flower made with cluny leaves is just breathtaking.

Jeanie joins the challenge and has posted a couple of previously completed bookmarks. The first one in variegated blue is from Be-stitched and the second in red, white and blue is from LaRae Mikulecky.

Vanessa tatted this delicate pink flower based upon one from Ondori's Tatting lace books in my her favourite thread, Altin Basak size 30. The flower was made from a long strip of tatted lace that is coiled around into a rozette and finished with a bead in the centre. Not having any suitable beads she used a mauve tatted centre.
Sherry's Blathnaid has some special tatting on her hat, but she's not telling us about it just yet.

Doilies, Snowflakes, Critters and Happy New Year

Cindy begins the challenge with this Gerbera Doily tatted in size 20 Lizbeth thread. The centre gave her a bit of trouble but she's well into it now and it looks like it will be a fairly large doily.
SunshineCraft has joined the challenge and begins with Jon Yusoff's elegant 'Magic Moment Snowflake', done in Venus crochet cotton from her local craft shop. It's nice to see another tatter like myself who is in a hurry to take pictures and doesn't always wait until the lace is blocked.
Fox wound up the old year and rang in the new one with tatting. To finish the year she tatted this sweet beaded edging using Sherry's Peach Pandora,#20 and a vintage edging pattern. The new year began with the Tatted Christmas Wreath" by Samantha Melnychuk in Karey Solomon's thread size #30 3 ply.
Katie's first motif of 2010 is Sweet Heart by Birgit Phelps in Yarnplayer's Midnight Oil HDT.Vanessa tatted the pansy from Toni Storer's book Tatting down the garden path in Altin Basak size 10. She likes that the flower is good for using up left over pieces, but she isn't enthusiastic about having to join the pieces together. Shirl finishes her 25th motif with this pattern from Tatting Doilies & Edgings edited by Rita Weiss tatted in DMC 100 Cordonnet Special in white. Laura has 4 more snowflakes completed. Isn't it amazing how the different colour combinations totally change the look.
Linda received her exchange package from Irma in Chile with lots of lovely tatted snowflakes and a charming tatted tree in the card. Linda has tatted 2 new crosses. Wendy's pattern has split rings on the outside and plain rings on the inside and was tatted with Cebelia size 30 thread
Linda Davies' cross bookmark is tatted with a medallion, cut and tied, then the outside cross is attached to the medallion tatted with Lizbeth size 20 thread.
Steph has been tatting away although she's getting tired of her chosen subject matter, namely critters. Here's the latest batch. The flamingo is from Martha Ess' Critters On The Block, the gecko is Pamela's gecko from Jane's pattern pages, the lovely swan is Mark Myers', the cocoa bunny is also from Mark, the kitty she thinks is from an old Workbasket, and the pig bookmark is from Dianna Stevens' Animal Bookmarks: A Tatted Zoo. The heart is from Karey Solomon's Tatting From The Heart using Yarnplayer's 'Pansy' HDT in size 50.
Bonnie tatted Marilee's "Remembrance" ring for her Aunt Myrtle. It is made using Sherry's size 20 HDT that she thinks is Peach Pandorea. Along with the ring she sent this motif, called Daisy Heart made using YarnPlayer's size 30 HDT Roses and Leafy. The pattern is from a February 1988 Workbasket. Bev has been the recipient of many exquisite tatted treasures. She received this lovely snowflake from Lalou, done in ecru thread with gold beads. The heart and bookmark were received from Jane and the green heart with blue beads was received from Pamela. The earrings were received as a a thank you gift from Krystle. Madhur sent her this gorgeous pink and green doily which is sitting on the table at her bedside. The delicate tatted angel was a gift from Aileen.
Kelly created this adorable bracelet that she plans to wear to a wedding. She may even make matching earrings to go with it. Martha tatted Nancy's tree in size 10 thread, then went to the other extreme and tatted Mark's cat in size 80 thread.
Wally's Spanish group tatted the Happy New Year banner as a gift to all of them.
