Edging, Hearts, Bracelet, Earrings, Motif, Doily, Snowflake, Rooster, Chicken and Goose

Ninetta designed this very creative edging in block tatting using size 80 DMC thread it was a real challenge both to tat it and to draw it.
Cindy tatted Mary Konior's Queen of Hearts in Lizbeth Tropical Punch Size 20 but it didn't quite go the way she intended on the first try. Being a perfectionist, she had to do it again just to get it perfect.

Fox tatted Vicki Clarke's Dagger Heart and she really likes it and can see it done it many different threads. The pretty pink lace is an ankle bracelet for the little "Boss" who is thrilled with her new jewellery.

Gina repeated the insertion samples with some of her own dyed threads that she thinks are size 30 ant on one sample she used size 40 Venus for the crocheted headings. On the other sample she used the same thread as the tatting but decreased the chain stitches between sets of joins, which seems to have worked as well. She also added some beads for additional interest.

Isa tatted these earrings using a pattern from a Russian site with cotton thread size 20 and 80 beads. The idea for this motif went in one direction, but that tatting seems to have gone in another direction.

Katherinne was having trouble with Heart's Desire by Susan Fuller, but she finally spent some time with it and got it right in silver Lizbeth size 20. She had some free time this weekend and is on the fourth row of this pattern from A New Twist on Tatting, done in Lizbeth size 20 Caribbean.

Mica tatted 24th day of December from Bjørn's 24 Snowflakes in Tatting and did the centre ring separately because she was concerned about snapping the threads if she tried to do a split ring and climb out. She used 1 strand DMC metallic floss and the finished snowflake measures about 2.5 inches. She has done all of the designs in this book with metallic threads and splitting the threads was the hardest part.
Vanessa already showed us the pear tree that is part of the wall hanging, and here are some of the other designs that will be featured on it. The hen and the rooster were from Christel Weidmann's book Tatting Farm Animals, and the baby chicks and the goose were designed by Jane Eborall. It's waiting to have it's picture taken because it's too large to scan.

Bookmarks, Motifs, Dachshund, Edging, Necklaces, Bracelet, Earrings, Snowflakes, Leaves

Stephanie Grace decided to try the turquoise thread with silver, but decided she didn't like this combination either, but persisted because someone will. Then she thought she'd do the glass mat from the Handy Hands newsletter and started with the turquoise thread on the shuttle. Then she wanted to see 2 together, only now she's not sure what to do with this.

Linda is making a CQ tea cosy that will have a small fan block on one side and on the other side she has this tatted fan.
Bonnie attempted the dachshund from Martha Ess' More Critters on the Block, but the first try didn't go so well. As you can see the second version was successful and was intended for a fabric postcard.

Diane mad another try at the edging using a different green HDT that she thinks is a size 40, but it's working up a little too fine for what her sister wants. Yarnplayer's "Fern" is a little too bright, but her "Spring Grass" might be just right.

Fox's muse is back. Look what's cooking up now.
Gina is working through the DMC Tatting publication and has made one of the insertions, often called beading which is often used with a ribbon running through the middle. The pattern calls for crocheted header and footer which Gina has tried 2 different ways and it doesn't seem quite right, but that mat be due to the threads used.

Isa made this pair of earrings and then did another design. Here is the whole set all made with the same beads and brown silk thread.

Mica tatted the 23 day of December from Bjørn's 24 Snowflakes in Tatting with 1 strand DMC metallic floss. She notes that the spiral chains may look pretty, but they are a pain to make with metallic thread.

Vanessa made lots of leaves designed by Ruth Scharf and pears based on Karey Solomon's grapes in her book Tree of Life. Then she added them to the tree trunk she designed. It's now part of a centre piece of a wall hanging.

Garter, Alligator, Motif, Edging and Flowers

Magda has been tatting a wedding garter for her friend's daughter white Aida cotton thread No. 20 and sapphire beads woven into a flower. A narrow elastic band hidden by satin ribbons finishes it off. She made the top section narrower than the bottom section which she thinks will make it better.

Orsi had to try out a new motif using the split jk but she doesn't like how this one turned out, but she does have some ideas to try.
Brigitte has completed a bookmark from Diana Stevens Animal Bookmarks, A Tatted Zoo. This one is the alligator tatted in Lizbeth size 20 thread in medium and light leaf green.
Diane took 3 tries to get this viney edging that her sister wants. The pattern says to join the ring to the picot of the first ring in the four ring cluster which she didn't do and wonders if she should. Has anyone else done this pattern and can offer insight?
Isa tatted a pair of beautiful flowers using a pattern from the italian magazine Lavoro Chiacchierino nr. 13.

Flower, Necklace, Earrings, Bracelets, Bookmarks, Edging, Doily, Snowflake and Motifs

Kristen has finally used Lyn Morton's book Tatting Patterns and tatted Water Lily with a yellow centre and white border. The she added a leaf and stem to give it a bit more character.
Jessica finally finished her write-up for her earring and necklace class for Shuttlebirds and almost has the write-up for the split-ring bracelet class done as well. Now she needs some test tatters to try them out.

Karen combined the turquoise thread with silver beads on this bracelet and made a matching pendant with black, silver, and a translucent black beads on the front motif and nor beads on the back motif and a domed glass decor gem sandwiched between the front and back motif.

Stephanie Grace is still working on bookmarks but has added a little twist. This one tatted with LizBeth #156, Juicy Watermelon had a flower button in matching colour added to one end to keep it in place in the book, but it works so much better as a bracelet. Then she had to try out Fairy Dance HDT from LadyDustyRoses's Shop and it made another lovely bookmark.

Orsi has another edging in the Napoleon line. This one is called Nelson. In her continuing experiments with Josephine knots she has done split ring JKs with the first half on one side and the second half on the other side for an interesting effect.

Isabel is tatting something in mignonette and wants to know if you can figure out what it is.
Brigitte has noticed that she has tatted a lot of Anne Bruvold's patterns. That's because she makes such nice designs, like the 2 colour snowflake the Brigitte did in Lizbeth Size 20 thread in variegated and white.

Fox is finished with her teal, cream and brown motif and now that it's done she's decided she doesn't like the colours. She's back to working on the white edging with clear beads and she's finding it rather soothing. She's having to re-evaluate things too since she has a drawer full of doilies and she isn't a doily person and she has a need to tat but no need for the finished product.
Gina has discovered some vintage tatting with pen and ink embellishment. What an interesting find.

Bookmarks, Doilies, Necklaces, Motifs, Heart, TIAS and a Bracelet

Schmath joins the challenge and has begun by tatting the Floral Bliss bookmark by Ellen Lai.
Jessica has one more section to complete on the Star doily and then all of the tatting will be done. Once that's completed she has to figure out how to add the fabric centre.

Karen tatted around a glass decor gem in variegated green Omega rayon thread and joined it at the sides with pearl beads to make a pendant.
Stephanie Grace has tatted another bookmark. This one is tatted in LizBeth Black and LizBeth #626; Shell Pink Lt and having some thread left on the shuttles she tried Yarnplayer's Remembrance ring and this time it worked. She wanted solid and variegated blue and ordered LizBeth Color #117, Country Side and the matching solid blue which she used to make this bookmark, except that she ordered the wrong solid colour.

Orsi decided to make her Napoleon in Waterloo doily bigger and has added more motifs around the edge. This is going to be an amazing doily.
Kat has continues her trials with learning to shuttle tat. Her first ring and chain motif was a success. She has gone on to try out the Stumpy bookmark and while it seems to be working she's having trouble enlarging her ring enough to get the shuttle through.
Wanda had an idea that she thought would work with SSSRs and started out with Lizbeth size 20 in Lilac Dk. #641, but they didn't quite work as planned so she cut them off and replaced them with something else and the design has gone back to the drawing board.
Brigitte used red Lizbeth Size 20 to tat Anne Bruvold's Christmas Heart which is the perfect size for a card. she was given Jane Eborall's flowery bookmark pattern by one of her friends at the Oklahoma Shuttle Bugs Tatting Group meeting and promptly went home and picked out this lovely variegated Lizbeth Size 20 thread named Sherbet Delight and paired it with medium leaf green to make a perfect hostess gift.

Carol tatted Jane Eborall's Flurry Heartache for Valentine's Day and for the center bead, she used a 6mm heart bead. Like many others she was sure the TIAS was going to be some kind of lizard and was surprised at the end, to have tatted a plane.

Isa tatted this bracelet using brown silk thread and over 200 crystal beads using a pattern from a Danish member of the tatting group in Sweden. Very sparkly!
Lily started to write out her first pattern, but then started to re-tat it and went off in a different direction so that now she has 2 designs to write out. She pointed out that the colours aren't a great combination in the second motif, but it did make it easier to keep track of the threads.

Marty really likes Vicki Clark's Ruffled Heart, but somehow when she tats it it doesn't come out right. The Rainbow heart is her own snowy heart pattern, but she makes some kind of alteration every time she tats it. In this case the multicolour thread hides the differences very well.
