Necklace, Ice Drops, Crown, Doily, Leaves and Snowflake

The Guidelines
1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing me to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.
2. The blogs are ALL checked whenever there is an update using the links list in the sidebar on the right, there is no need to advise me that you have added new content. If your new items haven't shown up, it's because I haven't had time to do an update yet.
3. I can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. I don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell me when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. From past experience I know the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let me know so that I continue to check your blog on a regular basis. Also let me know if once was enough so that I can move your blog to the list of past participants.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.
6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.
---------------

Elsa attended a flea market in the spring and used a quickly devised cardboard shuttle to demonstrate how to tat to one of the ladies present. When she went back again in the fall this lady showed her a design in a vintage publication which Elsa envisioned as a necklace, and what a very pretty necklace it made.

Diane decided to replace her old tree skirt with a new one so she hasn't had a lot of tatting time but she did get one Ice Drop done in her basic pattern since she can finish them much more quickly. She rewrote her Ice Drop Tutorial with more information and better pictures using the Ice Drop pictured here.

Eliz used 5 strands of Coats & Clark All Purpose Thread, article 210 colour 83B to tat a modified version of "Pinnacles" Crown. She prefers the look of it before the last round is added, but opted to tat just one repeat. It's currently being blocked stretched over a peanut butter jar.

Fox is making steady progress on her centre which may be boring repeats of the same motif, but the finished whole will be worth it.

Martha has added tatted leaves and flowers to a quilt block for the Palmetto's project quilt.

Muskaan tatted an adaptation of Patty Dowden’s Mardi Gras Snowflake for "I Love Tatting" in Mardi Gras colours using 3 strands of Anchor embroidery threads.

Sue wanted to tat these Ice Drops with silver bugle beads, but she discovered that even though they're marked the same size, there were differences in length. This one is in Christmas green. This next one is tatted in size 20 Lizbeth Snow White with long silver bugle beads and tiny read beads. The white and red Birthday Ice Drop is tatted in size 20 Lizbeth Snow White with red twisted bugle beads and tiny red beads and while it looks pretty just sitting there, it really glows with the light behind it. Another one tatted in size 40 Lizbeth Christmas Green with red bugle beads and white beads.

Wanda is planning on tatting Ice Drops for Christmas and she started with Cosmic Ice Drop, pattern by Nicola Bowersox although it was kind of boring without the beads the pattern calls for. She doesn't have the time to fuss with beads so she modified the outside and had to make adjustments to the back for the bevel on the gem.

Ornaments, Motifs, Bracelet, Snowflakes, Ice Drops, Crown, Doilies, Lanyard and Crosses

Vera bought some red thread last year and when she found it in her stash she decided to use it to make ornaments. She decided to stick with simple patterns and so far they are looking great.

Sue shares with us the laces from the ladies at her local tat days. The bracelet was done by one of her students who learned to tat in March. Lastly are the pieces from their Christmas exchange.

Diane used these lovely little pearlescent beads on this Ice Drop and her grandson chose the ribbon to go with it. She loves all shades of blue and even though the beads and ribbon don't exactly match, she thinks they go well together. With these she has another treeful ready for Christmas in the Village. She started this Minty Fudge pattern Thursday night and finished it Friday night. This Minty Fudge pattern was Saturday morning and finished it early Sunday morning. Cleaning for the holidays hasn't left much tatting time, but she did get one Ice Drop finished.

Eliz is working on "Pinnacles" from Tatting Patterns and Designs by Gun Blomqvist & Elwy Persson using multiple strands of Coats & Clark All Purpose sewing thread, article 210 Colour 83B.

Fox has the third row of the centre done on this Stawasz design. When it's more of the same it gets a little boring. (Is it just my screen? The previous picture looks like a lovely soft silver grey, but all the other pictures look plain ordinary white?)

Margaret tatted this row of the doily with the long chains, but she doesn't like how it looks and she's hoping it will pull into shape with the subsequent rows. The next row is done in purple ans it's not her typical colour choice, but sometimes you have to stretch your wings and try the unexpected.

Marie tatted Robin's Large Snowflake in size 80 thread and it turned out 3" long. This is Robin's traditional snowflake with beads. This design was tatted around an old brooch, found at an estate sale.

Muskaan has another new pattern for the medallion series with the PDF available from her blog. She used Anchor size 20 which is thicker than Lizbeth 20 and it measures approx 6.5 cms at the broadest points. The first trial in tinted blue with not all the chains of same length and some other minor tweaks.

HisKid's friend needed a tatted lanyard to hang her cross on, so she tatted one for her with purple beads. She tried several variations and finally did this one in size 10 thread that worked perfectly with the size beads she had.

Wanda has had several funerals to attend recently and she tatted these crosses to include in the sympathy cards. The first one is in Lizbeth size 20 #136 Autumn Spice and the second is in Lizbeth size 20 #131 Vineyard Harvest.

Easter egg, Crown, Dolls, Doilies, Motifs, Edging, Butterflies, Snowflake and Stars

Pop Maria has decided to join challenge and she has been creating delightful painted Easter eggs wrapped in tatting. These are done in blue and white with blue tatting and she has others on her page, so go check them out.

Eliz used Gale Marshall's pattern for the Queen Mom Memorial Crown and substituted lots of different beads and made the changes necessary to make them work. She wasn't satisfied with the placement of the brown eyed sock doll that she trimmed in tatting, so she moved them and she likes the end result.

Batty Tatter made the Flowerpiece doily by Mary Konior in size 20 ecru thread for a friend.

Melanie likes this square motif from a Workbasket magazine that she had to try and she likes the negative space with the long picots from the centre ring, which she has a list of possibilities to dress up.

Diane loves the look of the gold thread on her latest Rectangle doily. She's going back to the grey for the next round. A little bit more work has been done on the Spinning Wheel Glass Mat.

Fox has underestimated the amount of thread required for a hanky, but she won't be ordering more for this project because the good news is that the thread for her doily finally arrived.

Marie tatted another butterfly and she's finding this pattern addicting. This butterfly was tatted with three strands of Coats and Clark, variegated thread and the challenge was trying to get the strands to line up.

Phyllis made the Thirteenth Day of December from 24 Snowflakes in Tatting by Leone Bjorn in Lizbeth Blue Ice. She's using scraps of thread for butterflies to be donated to the Palmetto Tatters Guild for give aways.

HisKid was playing around with a drawing program and finally has a tatted version, done in size 40 Lizbeth Salmon Med that resembles her drawing. She also did some Salmon stars. This is Anika's Golden Star Earring Pattern, tatted in size 40 Lizbeth Niagara Falls with blue bugle beads and little blue glass beads.

Wanda picked up some pastel chalkboard eggs and decorated them for Easter adding tatted flowers and pencil decorations. She only got 3 done so she'll save the rest for next year.
