Bookmarks, Star, Doilies, Motifs, Earrings and Bracelet

mb duke finished a Jane McClellen/Grace Tan cross, and this time scanned it into the computer before giving it away.

Carrie was meticulously following the pattern directions for this star which seemed to lack shape. That happens when you neglect to join to the prescribed picots. Here it is done properly.

Meryl worked up to Round 17 of the Honey Napkin by Renulek. She nearly gave up on Round 15 which didn't look right. It turned out to be a missing join on round 14. It's currently languishing untouched waiting for the enthusiasm to complete it. This is Mary Konior's Spinning Wheel Glass Mat with the larger tatted in perle 8 from Madame Tricote Paris (Made in Turkey) colour number 187 and the smaller one is tatted in Metallic Machine Embroidery thread that she tried as an experiment, but it was awful to work with. The next motif is from Occhi Schiffchenspitze Frivolite (The Peacock Book)tatted in the same threads. Mary Konior's Posy is done in Lizbeth #40 thread, Autumn Spice. She used some she bought from Tat-ilicious, Whoopsie HDT #40 for this flower pattern from Tatting Patterns by Julia E Saunders. These crosses from Rebecca Jones' book done in Dark Rainbow #20 HDT from Tat-ilicious and black DMC #20 thread for a stained glass effect.

Laurie  attended her first Tat Days sponsored by the Palmetto Tatter's Guild, where she signed up for Christmas Tree Jewelry, the Serenity Angel, Tidy Tatting, 3-D Northern Star, Tatted Owl, and Silver Bells classes. She was able to finish a Christmas Tree earring, and the second one still needs to be made.

Jane was still struggling with the double doublestitch and had to re-do her tutorial, which she thinks is finally right. She used double doublestitch and bugle beads to make this bracelet and it's simple but effective.

Ginny has been busy getting ready for the Canada Tat Days, making this gem for auction or raffle.

Jessica has made several attempts at this doily from Priscilla Book #1 and she thinks that this time she's got it. The problem may be that she's accustomed to making tiny joining picots so that they aren't really visible and the design seems to need the joining picots to be larger.

Ancolie has modified an older model because it was too vintage looking. This version has fewer rings and more space.

Diane practiced tatting without a picot gauge making Maria from Tatted Bookmarks - cross-shaped by Lene Bjorn in size 80 Lizbeth Peacock Blues. Another Spinning Wheel is in progress with Perfect Quilter thread.

Fox continues to tat the Blomqvist & Persson motif in various colours of Perfect Quilter thread which is very fine and has resulted in her un-tatting and cutting one of them at least six times. S he is not going to continue the Ellen Stafford pattern, since she got halfway through the next round and realized she didn't like it. Fox met Terri at a local craft store and the talk turned to tatting. When they met up again Terry had learned to tat and this is her first project. This all chain pattern is from the Occhi Peacock book that Fox tried to use up some thread on the shuttles. Angelina's book has made it's rounds and is back home again. Three more motifs done in some different colours of the Perfect Quilter thread, and she loves the greens. Here's all of them together in their glorious riot of colour. Then for a total change of pace from very, very fine thread, to chunky size 10 for the next project.

Marie received "Tatted Doilies", by Iris Niebach for her birthday.  This doily was tatted in Lizbeth, size 20, Denim Whispers.

Bookmark, Angels and Bracelet

Diane worked on "Christina" from Tatted Bookmarks - cross-shaped by Lene Bjorn in size 80 Lizbeth #149, Peacock Blues for a special little girl.

Margaret has tatted Katie Johnson's 3D Angels in Lizbeth size 20 white, mastering the single split chain along the way and adding two picots to attach the skirt to the body rather than gluing the together as the pattern indicates.

Sue is tatting Jane Eborall's Celtic Friendship Bracelet and finding that it takes lots of attention and good lighting.

Necklaces, Doilies, Motifs and Edging

Cigdem created another flower pendant. This one was shuttle tatted in white mercerized cotton thread using pink glass seed beads, metal beads and a mix of glass pearls to compliment the pendant.

Sharon made excellent progress on the clover doily and she has enjoyed the pattern and Karey's lovely hand painted thread.

Cindy picked up her doily from the Minnesota State Fair and was pleased to note that she received second place for it.

Fox has found the motif pattern by Blomqvist and Persson is addictive and she just had to do more. Then she had to re-do it in the same colour to fix her mistake. And yet another one, again in another Perfect Quilter colour.

Marie has had a dreaded computer crash and lost the picture of the edging she did in Lizbeth, size 20, Azalea Med., but here's an older version of the edging. This is a forgotten post of a doily she did in Lizbeth, size 20, Vineyard Harvest.

Star, Motifs, Doilies, Necklace and Earrings,

Carrie spent time visiting with family and still managed to get some tatting done a small star by Birgit worked in size 10 white and green.

Barbara just finished Nilam, another motif from Jon Yusoff's book "Elegant Tatting Gems" done in Lizbeth size 20 Magenta Dk #618.

Jane had some input from other folks and has learned a better way to make a double double stitch and included pictures on her blog.

Jessica has added a closeup of the fair lace she did. It's a pattern from Priscilla Tatting Book #3.

Ancolie was working on another design from Iris Niebach's Fantasia 4 but she doesn't like how the four small rounds at the top look and she's not sure how to rectify it.

Diane suffers from distracted crafting. The knitting distracts her from tatting bookmarks and the bookmarks distract her from snowflakes and the snowflakes distract her from another Spinning Wheel. Nilam from Elegant Tatting Gems by Jon Yusoff was finally finished, tatted in size 20 Lizbeth, #163, Blue Ice

Fox loves how her shuttle matches the colours she chose for this project. Here is the progress so far on her Ellen Stafford pattern. The first sample of Perfect Quilter was lovely to work with. The next thread clung to itself and was impossible to un-tat, which she thinks might be due to the black dye in it. The last one was a fun palette and all of the motifs are done in a pattern by Blomqvist and Persson.

Margaret did a test tat from the first page of Jan Stawasz' book, in Lizbeth no 20 Pink Parade thread, which she will use on the front of a card. She and Wendy have been doing a tatalong of Flowerpot number one from the book, which she tatted in Lizbeth No 20 white and plans to mount in on blue card background and frame. She tatted this motif from Angelina's book as written, in American Apple pie no 40 Lizbeth thread, but it came out looking like a hat. She re-tatted it with 3ds between the picots on the rings and chains and it came out perfect. Perfect, except that she chopped off a picot when cutting ends, and had to re-do it again, this time in Altin Basak thread.

Marie had only one blue cats-eye cabochon and after tatting the foundation, around the it she decided it was a keeper. She used two strands of Sulky, gold metallic thread and of course had to make matching earrings to go with it.

Wanda tatted this little piece with the "Baja" Perfect Quilter thread just to see how it worked up.

Earrings, Necklaces, Bracelet, Doilies and Motifs

The Guidelines
1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing us to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.
2. There is no need to advise the Challenge Team to let let us know when you've added things to your blog. We check all of the blogs when we do an update.
3. We can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. We don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell us when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. We know from past experience that the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let us know so that we continue to check your blog on a regular basis.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.
6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.
---------------

mb duke followed Sue's instructions to tat her own dreamcatcher earrings in blue to match her daughter's eyes.

Jane has added step by step pictures of the double double stitch and remarks that it isn't difficult, just fiddly and slow.

Marta created a lovely necklace with gray thread and bright rose coloured stones. It was followed by a matching bracelet.

Diane finished the Spinning Wheel Glass Mat in Perfect Quilter thread and ended up with a lovely, delicate 3.5 inch mat that is perfect for her curio cabinet.

Fox found that this Lindsay Rogers motif tatted in #40 Lizbeth kept her busy for a couple of hours. She finished her modified version of the Trellis doily in size 30 Cebelia and it ended up about 8.5 inches across.

Marie made this pair of earrings in Gutermann, copper metallic sewing thread with hematite stones and gave then to her sister for her graduation. The Jasper stones were Tatsmithed with one strand of Sulky, metallic gold thread and one strand of Gutermann, metallic copper thread.

Martha's new book, Flights of Fantasy is almost ready and she has started taking pre-orders for it.

Sue shows the pair of dreamcatcher earrings she started when making the tutorial. They are tatted in size 40 Lizbeth Autumn Spice.
