Motifs, Doilies, Train, Doodles, Bracelet, Cross, Alphabet and Earrings

Jane has been tatting Teiko Fujito's designs that use a lot of bare threads and to avoid them she tried out encapsulation. She's well into the last motif in the three shuttle section, and she's trying to follow Teiko Fujito's patterns exactly,  so probably won't use the encapsulation route. Motif 49 is worked in size 40 thread; the lilac is Olympus, the green and white are Coats and it measures 16 cm across. She blocked it before she did the outer chain and decided that the 2 ds between 'arms' on the pattern just wasn't going to work, so she increased it to 5 ds. This picture is all of the designs she done from this section of the book.

Pop Maria was on holidays but she die get several of of Pascale Provost's Amethyste motifs done. It has a border, but she likes how it looks without and may just leave it.

Nikki was looking for another project to do and decided on Renulek's Wiosna 2015 doily, which is pretty easy to follow up to row 7 and if she can't follow it after that she can just quit.

Batty Tatter added Sherry's train pattern to a pink engineer's hat and she might add a puff of smoke coming out of the stack. She's still undecided as to whether or not to add an edging around the brim.

Elsa has been working on her harlequin shawl, but it had too sharp a point at the tip. Fortunately after discussing it with Maglina she made a modification to her arrangement and now things are working out. Her projected shawl has 137 wheels for a total width estimated at 130 cm and she currently has 38 done.

Diane's newest Spinning Wheel is in the gorgeous blue Majestic thread size 80 #849. Running a lot of errands meant for little tatting time, but she did get a bit done. Tangles in tiny threads take a long time to sort out so she didn't get as far on her Spinning Wheel as she expected. She finally has this Spinning Wheel finished and it's 3.5 inches across. Emptying shuttles means she has a nice little baggie of tatted doodles done to give away. Her baggie of butterflies and bits is growing. Another Spinning Wheel glass mat is started, this one in Perfect Quilter Denim.

Marie has another Egyptian-style bracelet created. Katrine, by Lene Bjorn is one of her favourite crosses.

Muskaan did Floral Fantasy Doily by Kathleen Minniti and as usual has shown step by step what she did and the techniques she used. Anchor Crochet Cotton that is made in India by Madura Coats is thicker than other size 20s & 40s threads as she discovered in her first attempt at making Elizabeth (aka Woven Center Flower) by Robina Melville. She increased the picot size to get it to work. She loves the final result. She did have to re visit her earlier attempts at woven picots for review.

Phyllis tatted the Cobweb doily from the book Tatting Doilies & Edgings edited by Rita Weiss, in Lizbeth 138 Leafy Greens, size 20. Phillip's name along with the train she test tatted for Martha, will be a nice addition to his room and is made using the alphabet from Tatting ABC's & 123's by Houstine Cooper & Handy Hands done in Lizbeth size 20 in Royal Blue and Ocean Turquoise Lt.

Wanda enjoyed the lanyard pattern so much she tried making earrings to go with it in Lizbeth #646 Purple Iris Lt in size 20.  She entered the bracelet in the fair and took first prize with it. He Harper Edging on the fabric circle also won first prize.

Motifs, Choker, Hat, Bracelet, arrings, Pendants and Doilies

Jane finished round two of the Teiko motif, which looks less square than she expected, but maybe the transition and the next round will give the square look. It's looking a little more square and following Jon's suggestion she blocked the bare threads to zigzag to give it more interest. Motif 47 is much like 46 but she shortened the bare threads, which she could have shortened even more. The cream thread is Cebelia, as is the pink and the green is Milford; all size 20. Motif 48 really is square, larger than expected, 11 cm across in size 20 thread and would look good repeated. She joined the little corner flowers in the wrong place twice, catching the mistake quite soon the first time, but missing out one pattern repeat the second time, but she realized fixing the mistake was as easy as cutting off the corner flower.

Nikki used a pattern from Tatted Bookmarks edited by Barbara Foster to make this choker in size 20 Lizbeth thread. She found it challenging to work in size 20 thread rather than size 10 and the dark colour made things doubly hard.

Batty Tatter used fabric glue to attach the previously tatted heart and a matching edging to this child's hat and as hard as the glue was to work with, I bet it's a lot easier than sewing the tatting on.

Sue chose colours to match her dress and made this bracelet, earring and pendant set using Jane Eborall's pattern.

Diane finished round 4 of Renulek's Napkin Marta without any problems using size 80 Majestic #833, in a very pretty shade of green. Round 5 is in size 80 Majestic # 825, a colour that she really likes. A visit from family she hasn't seen in a while meant that there wasn't a lot of tatting time, but she did get this round finished. She started round 6 of Renulek's Napkin Marta in size 80 Majestic #849, a colour that she loves, but it just wasn't working. Since pressing didn't improve it, she's thinking that she needs larger picots, or she'll have to play with the stitch count, but as it's the last row she'' be able to play around with it and make it work.

Fox decided that when an unfixable error was discovered in her last post, that she just couldn't stand the red colour. So she switched to softer colours and started again, but with more beads.

Marie likes the way the embellishment worked out on this pendant. This tatted piece was exchanged for two spools of thread. Tatting around this single earring turned it into a lovely pendant.

Muskaan is working through Renulek’s Wiosna 2016 and round 13, which finally stopped ruffling, is 14¼" in size 40 thread. Round 14 is 15¾" in size 40. Round 15 is larger than 17” and took much longer than she thought. Round 16 brought it up to 19 inches across and it was a quick and enjoyable tat mostly because of the lack of picots, but she did run out of thread frequently on this round. She decided to tat the last round in Anchor Mercer size 40 cream 0300 for the rings and shaded red/black 1206 for the chains. She had a couple of false starts, but soon got into the swing of things and the finished size is 21 inches.

HisKid is tatting along on her doily but these outer rows are taking forever. She's about half way through this round.

Doilies, Lanyard, Cross, Techniques, Motifs and Bracelet

The Guidelines
1. Permission to copy. When a participant joins they are authorizing me to copy their pictures to be shown on the challenge blog.
2. The blogs are ALL checked whenever there is an update using the links list in the sidebar on the right, there is no need to advise me that you have added new content. If your new items haven't shown up, it's because I haven't had time to do an update yet.
3. I can't keep track of how many motifs each person does. You may post articles of tatting that you don't plan on including in your 25, or you may post a pair of earrings and count each earring as a separate motif. I don't read minds, so it's up to each participant to tell me when they have reached their goal of 25.
4. From past experience I know the challenge is addictive. If you finish and plan on doing it again let me know so that I continue to check your blog on a regular basis. Also let me know if once was enough so that I can move your blog to the list of past participants.
5. Whenever you get a chance don't just view the pictures here, take the time to click on the links to people's blogs and read all about what they are doing, instead of just getting the snippets of it here. People like it when you take the time to visit their blog and comment on their work. A lot of the fun of the challenge is that we get to know each other and encourage one another to try new things.
6. Tatting 25 motifs in a year typically means tatting 2 motifs per month. Tatters who do not post any tatting content for 5 or 6 months will be removed from the list of participants.
---------------

Jane decided that a power outage was a good time to get back to tatting from the Tatted Artistry of Teiko Fujito and the next one is a 3 shuttle design on the cover of the book. She was concerned that the design might cup and as she approached the end of the round she thought she might run out of the multi coloured thread, but she finished with a whole 12 cm left!

Melanie picked up a purling pin at Lacis and she was working on a necklace just for something to do while waiting in line and the two have come together in a lanyard.

Diane worked on her Spinning Wheel glass mat in size 80 Lizbeth Pink Cocoa. Her new project, Renulek's Napkin "Marta" in size 80 Majestic #823 fits nicely into one of her new thread catchers. Round 2 of Renulek's Napkin Marta is size 80 Majestic #830, which now measures a whopping 2 3/4". She remembered that she didn't post a picture of her July tatting, she accomplished a lot in July! The Pink Cocoa Spinning Wheel is finished and she really likes the way it turned out. She completed round 3 of Renulek's Napkin Marta, but since it had severe cupping even after blocking she's thinking of re-doing this round either with larger picots between rings or a different stitch count. She opted for snipping it off and using larger picots on the rings, and now it lays flat.

Eliz tatted Fancy Cross by Roger aka Freedman in size 20 Manuela thread, although she altered the bottom as she was running out of thread and she thought this would work better for adding a ribbon. She has made some progress in her practise of filet tatting, even if some of her squares are a little rounded. She wanted to use some of the thread in her stash and she combined this softly coloured variegated thread by Manuela with a lovely Lizbeth thread using a pattern from an old Geocities website.

Muskaan bought some variegated thread online because the colours were gorgeous, but when it arrived, the thread was thicker that size 10, more like size 3 and she used it for some coasters and tried out some techniques with it. One advantage to working with the thicker thread was that it made it easier for trying out new techniques.

Wanda didn't add beads to her lanyard, partly because she was tatting in the car, but when she came home from Hobby Lobby with beads she decided to try it out. The addition of beads gave the design more of a leaf shape and it works well as a bracelet.
