Bookmarks, Baskets and Butterflies

Anne has started another couple of doilies in search of a large centre piece. The first design has too many chains only rows that she doesn't like and a small mistake at the beginning of the second doily left her with an uneven number of chains in the outer row, so her quest continues. Norma has lots of butterflies attached to her shirt and added a little embroidery, beads and ribbon to embellish them. Isn't it gorgeous? Her CQ blocks have tatted baskets and lots of wee tatted flowers and the large basket is filled with an assortment of tatted flowers.

Margaret is joining the growing number of tatters who are making the public aware not to BUY vintage patterns which can be had for FREE.

Mrs John was at a drag race on the weekend and made contact with some people interested in tatting. They had a nice chat about threads and dyeing and shuttle collecting and were sent away with some more contact information.

Aileen has given her plastic card picot gauges a face lift.Ais is getting better at her tatting. How do we know? She had a round on a doily that wasn't behaving and she had the courage to cut it off. As a beginner just the idea of cutting off tatting would be unthinkable, but a few miles/kilometers of tatting later and you know you won't like it so you might as well cut. Zarina is giving this collection of bookmarks made with her own HDT to the people who helped her out with her questionnaire. Her most recent bookmark was made with her new thread colour, the inspiration for which are the colours on an Elle sports blouse.

TattingChic gives us a glimpse of all her tatting shuttles.

Diane worked a small motif with Sherry's Karen's Halo HDT in silk.
I have blogged about the stolen tatting images.
Laura has tatted Clyde's Ray of Hope doily in Marilee's HDT Rhubarb Pie.
Sherry has a "name the doily" contest going.
Gina has more wedding dress pics.

Bookmarks, Earrings and Tatting Gifts

Anne finished the doily, but as suspected it came out smaller than the 30-40 cm she wants. To take a break from tatting doilies she tatted my 3D Flake, which Georgia renamed Superbowl Sunday Snowflake and she's wondering how to starch it. I don't know I never starch mine. Sapna was tagged to share 6 unimportant things about herself. She hasn't been doing a lot of tatting as she had visitors, but they've gone now. Just in time because her tatting supplies have arrived. The first article she unwrapped was a beautifully crafted flat shuttle from Grizzly Mountain Arts. It's a different shape from others I've seen. It will be interesting to hear what it's like to work with.Bev is working on her tension and gradually seeing an improvement.

Margaret has completed her round robin and sent off her last package. This pattern is from Monica Hahn's Christmas Angels and Other Tatting Patterns and the thread is Altin Basak size 50. Margaret is steadily improving and the finer thread doesn't intimidate her any more.
Jeff has finished the afghan he was crocheting and took out some time for tatting. The pattern is "English Ivy" from my book Transitions in Tatting worked in Yarnplayer's "Celery" HDT in size 30 and DMC Cebelia size 30 in colour number 699. The "Pearl Tatting Bracelet" designed by Birgit Phelps was made with C-Lon beading cord in two shades of purple and three Swarovski crystal beads. The second bracelet pattern is Interlocking Clovers from Mary Konior's book "Tatting Patterns". Jeff made two pieces of lace, one in Flora 20, colour # 204 (yellow) for the inside of the bracelet, and three strands of DFN metallic silver embroidery floss for the outside of the bracelet. He added some gold silver-lined beads for some added sparkle and joined the yellow and the silver together along the edge as he was working. The metal band was inserted before the last end was completed. Both of these are gifts for his mom.
Aileen decided her shuttle collection made a much more interesting workstation background. She has been using her HDT to make Pam Palmer's crinoline lady and it's looking dreadful. Maybe HDT isn't a good choice for this pattern. To add to the problems she didn't have enough thread to finish it and had to dye another batch. So while she was waiting for it to dry she made another set of picot gauges because her first set were lost. What do you think of the new HDT?
Joy used a little snowflake from Tatted Snowflakes by Vida Sunderman and an edging from Workbasket Magazine to dress up some fingertip towels. They look gorgeous and they'll make great gifts.
Carol L. tatted Jane Eborall's Flat Snowflake Earring for her friend, Rayanna, in her favorite color, purple. Another earring from Jane's site, Flower Earring, are almost like small bell shaped flowers and Carol has beads hanging down from the center of the flower. Then she tatted a pattern by Nina Libin, Beaded Earring and she wants to do a few more and experiment with different colours of threads and beads.
TattingChic received this charming Tatted Maltese Ring Bookmark from Karen in Germany and in exchanged sent her the Vintage Rosegarden Tatted Bookmark that she designed. Mary is tatting a Jan Stawasz Doily in salmon and blue.

Tami made an exquisite tatted hanky for her niece's wedding and an embroidered, cotton lined, satin bag for the wedding dance. Iris received a lovely surprise from Meme, a beautiful tatted doily. Bev has tatted a Geranium Leaf from Karey Solomon's "Tatting Turns Over a New Leaf" in size 30 Forest HDT from Yarnplayer.Tattle has a new home and to celebrate his addition to the family. Aileen has tatted the turtle from Mark's web site in size 20 variegated Coats thread. Nita made this adorable bear and submitted it to Piecework Magazine. She got the news that her entry was one of 29 chosen to be displayed with the winners in the new EGA museum in Louisville KY for 3 months through Nov 30th. The Outfit was tatted in DMC #80 thread and she got permission from Carol Winandy to revise her pattern for a basket, and made them into a floppy hat, dress, and panties. Can I say it again, adorable.TattingChic has tatted a Vintage Style Rose Garden Bookmark in DMC Special Dentelles size 80 thread. The variegated pink is #62 and the green is #3052 and it measures 7" x 1 & 1/2". Pretty and dainty, unlike the one she did for her friend Matt. Diane likes road trips. This time she got a bookmark tatted.
Pamela has tatted elephants.

Tatters Unite! - Please read

Recently numerous tatters have had the pictures of the tatting on their blogs and web sites taken to advertise patterns for sale on this web site:
http://www.timelesstattingpatterns.com/gallery/

The manual offered for sale is a copy of the public domain books freely available from the Antique Pattern Library , so this web site is a complete rip off. It is using the beautiful pictures from the tatting community to gain profit. Previous requests to desist do not appear to have had any effect.

PLEASE - check the gallery on the 'timeless' page and see if any of the images from your website or blog are there. If they are there, take the following steps.

1. Write to Eileen Morgan the name shown on the page using the
address she gives for contact
support@timelesstattingpatterns.com
and ask her politely to remove them.

2. Write to Defender Technologies Group, LLC.
http://www.defenderhosting.com/
at the following addresses
Sales@DefenderHosting.com
abuse@powervps.com

a) send them a copy of the image.
b) send them a link to the place on your blog or website where the picture was taken from.
c) send them a copy of your email to her requesting that the image be removed.
d) request the server, Defender Technologies Group, LLC, to remove the image, pointing out that it is being used for false advertising.

Just simply tell them that the attached image from your web site
(give them the address) was taken without your knowledge or permission and is being used to promote a manual she sells that is a copy of public domain material available for free elsewhere on the internet.

Taking from one tatter takes from us all, but collectively we do have a voice.

Additional note: Originally I had given the sales email address which is shown on the Defender Technologies Group, LLC. web site, but then was given the abuse address in a subsequent email. I would suggest writing to both addresses.

Bookmarks, Edgings, Doilies and TIAS

Eva has tatted the Swedish national flag in split rings.

Meme has received another piece from the round robin. These bookmarks came from Vicki and she included the pattern for one of them.
Wendy has been too busy with many other things to do much tatting but she recently picked up her shuttles again to tat this edging with some vintage thread. She may have some more of the same thread in her stash so that she'll be able to make it even longer.

Anne had time while at a conference in Budapest to work on a doily. She only has one and a half rows to go.

Tami tatted a number of crosses from Patty's book to be given away and started on the TIAS project. Here's her finished lady.
Iris is home from Horstmar with lots of pictures of the tatting that could be seen there including the pieces from her recent book. You can access the tutorial on her web site from the link on her blog and learn how to tat with a wire core. Iris has also posted some helpful information of how to work and avoid a back ache.

Norma has been thinking cool thoughts tatting snowflakes in summer to take her mind off the hundred degree heat.

Bev received this lovely blue angel from Emily Garland by way of Karey Solomon. Her Motif #5 is a card from Pat Monroe's, "Garden of Flowers", the Lupine/bluebonnet. She used Sulky for the blue and King Tut for the variegated thread. The card will be sent to Gary Houtz, as a get well sentiment. Bev has tatted the TIAS project and ran into several problems from beads that don't match for the eyes, to tension that wasn't as consistent as she wanted it to be.

Margaret is half way through the challenge with this design by Mark Meyers and Lauren Snyder. Her nephew graduated and the card her sister got had the caption "nice hat" on the inside. Margaret thought that the pattern in the university's colours of black and gold was the perfect touch.
Jeff has his TIAS done with a variation on the hair style.Aileen has tatted Mary Konior's square in size 20 Omega and Nina Libin's square ornament in size 20 white Coats with silvered clear beads. Both of them are lovely and they look even better now that she has a scanner to take pictures of them. She has embarked on tatting what she thought of as a boring doily, but she's had a change of mind and discovered that it isn't so boring after all. Here it is after round 5 and it hasn't turned into a basket, it's still laying flat.

Bonnie's teaser is finally completed. It's the triangle motif doily.

Joy has been working on lots of tatting for the Farm Show. She finally settled on a design and colour combination that she liked for the runner. The tatted hens and chicks edging in variegated blue is made with size 80 thread. Working with thread this fine is a first for Joy. The little doily from A new Twist on Tatting was planned for a trivet, but when she couldn't find one large enough she used a ribbon wrapped styrofoam ring. Another little doily Another little doily/medallion tatted in size 30 Cebelia comes from Tatting Doilies & Edgings edited by Rita Weiss. The insertion design was completed in Olympus size 40 and the tatting sewn onto a hand towel for the Farm Show. The hen and chicks edging with one picot on the "hen" ring is how Joy's family did it and she was surprised recently to see that in all of the pattern books there are multiple picots on that ring. Does anyone know of any single-picot samples other than Joy's family, or is it just have a little quirk?

Carol L. sliced her finger cutting celery and needed 7 stitches which made it difficult to tat. Luckily the leprechaun didn't have any such handicap. Here's the flower pin he tatted. Carol's hubby was out of town and brought her home a lovely silver tatting shuttle stamped with C.B.&H. Sterling and Carol is wondering if anyone has any information on the company.

Ellen has tatted Jane's TIAS and named her little lady Rose. Her package finally came in from Handy Hands with lots of wonderful books to keep her busy. Her animal for the round robin is a Merlion tatted with Manuela 20 thread and with 3-cut beads. The lion's head and fish's tail are remarkable. What an ingenious design! Also included with the Merlion was an assortment of critter paperclip bookmarks.

How can you tat several motifs and still not know how to flip your stitch? Ask Ais, she knows. After some diagrams and some helpful videos, Ais know knows how to flip her stitches, make rings and chains and even floating rings. She has finished round three of the Pretty Doily Tat-along. Here is the Queen of Hearts from Mary Konior's Tatting with Visual Patterns done in DMC cébelia size 20 thread.

Zarina tatted a bookmark from Mary Konior's Tatting with Visual Patterns using the Black Magic insertion and it completes her 25 motifs. She has plans for making her own HDT and plans form teaching her 4 year old niece to tat. That's the way, start them young. After the dyeing comes the tatting and here are some bookmarks in her own HDT, complete with beads. The next batch isn't quite the flower colour she was looking for, but it does tat up quite pretty.
Nita has finished the TIAS challenge. Meet Goldilocks, her finished project. The snowflake is another Denise Munoz pattern.

Amie has been tatting but too busy to stop, take pictures and blog. The triangle motif is one that she printed out some time ago but she's not sure where it comes from. She might make a bunch more in red white and green and use them for Christmas decorations or she might join them all into a mat. Amie saw this star on TattingChic's page and tatted the motif from the picture. It's so pretty she may want to turn it into a shawl. The row of motifs tatted up in no time at all and looks like it would make a good design for an arm rest. The edging online is called "Basket Weave Edging". It was great fun to tat and a lady asked Amie to make it for her dining room curtains. This pattern for the motif done in DMC Size 10 - Color 5109 comes from the antique pattern library in the Dillmont Tat book - Figure 22. The Bud Vase doily was another quick pattern to work up in the same thread.
TattingChic's fortune cookie said she would be showered with good luck and right away she won the Cider Antiques Cottage Charm Giveaway which some lovely pieces. Teri Dusenbury's heart called "Sadie" was perfect as a friendship gift. TattingChic's friend Matt wanted her to tat him a big bookmark with red roses and a white background and this is what she came up with tatted in size 20 thread. Here is the tatted collar received from the Giveaway.

Marilee's new HDT is "Summer Trail".
Sherry has "Hydrangea" and "Sue Hansen" HDT in SILK.
