Leaves, Snowflakes, & a Needle Tatted Necklace

Carolyn has tatted a motif called Fancy Flower by Rozella F. Linden from her book "Easy Tatting". She tatted the motif using size 5 pearl cotton in a nice light shade of blue

Shirley posts pictures of four very colourful Christmas themed motifs (well, three Christmas themed motifs; the fourth isn't really Christmasy). The red snowflake is from Lene Bjorn's book "24 Snowflakes in Tatting" done in size 80 DMC thread in colour #106. The Santa motif is from "The Complete Book of Tatting" by Rebecca Jones. He is tatted using Coats size 30 thread. The next colourful snowflake is from a Japanese tatting book and is made with pearl cotton size 8 and metallic gold seed beads. Shirley's last motif is from Lyn Morton's book "Tatting Patterns" and is done with HH Lisbeth thread in size 20.

TattingChic has been busy tatting leaves. The first photo shows all her leaves together. The first leaf (starting from the second photo) is Tatted Oak Leaf by Karey Solomon from her book "Tatting Turns Over A New Leaf". The next leaf is Tatted Autumn Leaf by LadyShuttleMaker. The pattern is available here. The third leaf is Tatted Maple Leaf, which is an adaptation of a pattern from Workbasket. Tammy Rogers modernized the pattern and modified it slightly. Pattern located here. TattingChic's final leaf is Tatted Mulberry Leaf also from "Tatting Turns Over A New Leaf". TattingChic mentions that the pattern was written in a rather indecipherable way (that is her word, not mine). Looks pretty anyway. All four leaves were tatted with Yarnplayer's HDT in Sugar Maple size 20.

Ellen made a ROM card for a colleague of her husband. She used one of Teri Dusenbury's heart designs (well, two of the same design). She also tatted another Royal Trio Bookmark to check her pattern that she posted previously.

Iris is busy tatting earrings to sell at an exhibition in South Italy. The earrings have wire inside so the earrings hold their shape without stiffeners. The earring patterns are in Iris's book "Just For Fun". Simply stunning work, Iris.

Heather is busy as always and shares another necklace and earring set that she designed. The pattern is posted as well. She used size 10 thread and a size 5 tatting needle.

Clyde has posted about his trip to the Fringe Element Tatting Days. I can't wait to see some pictures.

Mark's niece is getting married and he gets to make the lace for her dress. How exciting!

It was brought to Sherry's attention that the instructions for day 9 of the TIAS was missing the written instructions. A new updated file as been posted. Sherry also shares the progress of her tatting students. Congratulations Sherry for introducing tatting to Korea!

Monday Update

Jeanne posts her motifs 16 & 17. Motif 16 is from Patti Duff's Mini Tat book and is called Motif 41. It is done in Manuela size 20 thread. Motif 17 is a rosary Jeanne made for a friend. It is done Manuela size 20 thread in colour # 204. She also shows her progress on the latest TIAS.



Aileen tatted one of Anne's Norwegian Dragons using some DMC variegated thread. Beetroot is an appropriate name for the dragon.


Heather wastes no time starting the 25 motif challenge a second time. She starts off with a little snowflake done in one strand each of a green variegated and white sewing thread. Her second motif is a really pretty necklace that is using an amber coloured plastic ornament thingamajig (my terminology, not hers). She used white size 10 thread for the necklace. As usual, patterns are available for both motifs.



Maria's 3rd motif is a pendant. I like it too Maria.

Carol posts a picture of Scooby-Doo that she made some time ago. Isn't he cute?

Clyde's latest post is about remembering to appreciate. Well said Clyde, as always.

Crosses, Scrunchies, Bookmarks and Banners!

This is, obviously, my first post as a contributor to the Challenge Page. Please bear with me! Funny I should mention bear, as that's what putting this together is. I have more respect for Sharon than I would ever have imagined. Thank you so much Sharon for all that you have done keeping this challenge alive! If I have left anyone out, mislabeled anything, or misnumbered anything, please correct me kindly and then forgive me. I'll do better next time!

Nita tatted these lovely bookmarks from Nancy Tracy's design. The tan and ecru is #20 DMC cordonnet. The purple one is Yarnplayer's HDT. Who wouldn't be proud to mark their place with one of these? These are #14 for Nita.


Ais has received the last of three packages from Dave. Look at the lovely custom ordered items. Lucky girl!





Bonnie has revisited a favorite cross pattern by Julie Patterson named Hearts and Flower Cross Bookmark and tatted it with Yarnplayer's Lola. It is for her friend Nicole who is having surgery this Friday. I know she will love it. Tami shares a banner with us that is made for families of servicemen in harm's way. This is a very inspirational post to read. Thank you so much to all of the families who are missing their loved ones.

Tatting is alive and well - here's the lace to prove it

I apologize for the sparse posting, but household maintenance has eaten up most of my available time this week.


Ruth made an adorable flower pendant and she's used the same design to make earrings. As a tatting giveaway she makes Snippette the tatted celtic knot snail. The pattern for Snippette is shared in the Tatting Pattern Calendar.
Kathy has finished the tatting for her fair entries and now she can get back to tatting for the challenge. She has 2 more entries, a May 1992 Workbasket motif done in Cebelia size 30 and an edging from a 1972 Workbasket, tatted in what she thinks is Oliver Twist quilting thread.
Carol's post for wordless Wednesday is a picture of a pretty blue bird.

Marilee has created a beautiful Swallowtail Pendant which is a mirror image design. She received a shipment of display materials and she has been sorting things out for her Etsy shop. It feels like you've done a lot of items until you try to fill a display table and then you lot at the mostly empty space and realize just how much inventory it takes. Rhubarb Crisp is the name of her latest hand dyed thread colour.

Laura has wanted a Dancing Lady Orchid for a long time and now she has one in full bloom. She started another round on her Pyramid Orchid Mat, but she's gone with a darker background colour for this one. Charlene is another crazy quilter that loves Laurie's basket design and she's tatted up a bunch to fill with flowers on her crazy quilts.Marty has rescued a bunch of crocheted doilies that had been stained and mistreated and rejuvenated them by tie dying them. Really interesting effects.

Melissa has done a lot of embroidered pillowcases, but this pair of His and Hers, she's keeping. The last tatting meeting she attended, one of the ladies discovered a mistake she couldn't live with and cut off the outer round of her project. Melissa salvaged the cut off pieces and will use them in a crazy quilt. She found a UFO while packing up for her move across country that just needed lots of split stitch border done on it and she decided to pull it out and work on it. so now it's a Finished Object.

Sherry writes about her designing adventures, where she gets inspiration from and how she perfects her designs. She shows a design that didn't work and the final result of what she was trying for. Also posted are some new mugs with tatting designs on them fresh from the kiln.

Wendy is using some vintage Star tatting cotton for one of her edgings in a lovely variegated yellow colour. She has already completed a number of butterflies for the curtain in her daughter's room and she's now looking to do a shadow box of tatted butterflies and bugs to mimic a bug display box. Her daughter is going to name the bugs that will hang on her wall. If you'd like to help out with the Butterfly/Bug collection Wendy would be happy to hear from you. For the quilters, Wendy has posted a tutorial for making a pinwheel block and instructions for anyone who wants to participate in a block exchange.
Anne has been doing a lot of knitting lately and has finished off her knitted tablecloth. It's gorgeous, but I'd be afraid to use it. There's a huge amount of work in it and it looks absolutely stunning. The mystery stole is progressing nicely and as she hasn't got the next clue yet, she's thinking she might do some tatting.

Laurie has taken some of the designs from Lindsay Rogers' Tatting Collage book and turned them into a fabric postcard for a postcard swap she has joined.

Sarah has joined the challenge and she's been experimenting with a few things while she remembers how to tat. She began a rings only insertion and planned to tat until the shuttle ran out of thread. Here's her finished edging. Sarah has also been dabbling in a little smocking and mentions one of the goodies available in her cafepress shop are knitting needle size chart postcards.
