Motifs, Bookmarks, Edging, Cross and Doilies

Michelle has joined the challenge and is currently in the process of tatting Quatrain, a pattern by Frivole. The long term project will take 154 motifs and she has plans to do some other things along the way. Now there's a busy tatter.

Sharon loves Mary Konior's Black Magic bookmark pattern and the purple on the left is Flora while the one on the right is Lizbeth Carribean. Both are size 20 threads. The Carribean one was given to her Mom, but it got lost while she was travelling. Lately she has been busy practicing split rings making Jane Eborall's Fandango pattern. First is Carribean on shuttle one and matching aqua on shuttle two. Below that she used Turquoise twist on both shuttles. When her Mom asked for a new bookmark Sharon decided to send her the lovely Island Breeze Fandango bookmark.

Fox has another pair of wee socks done and ready to send, and some tatting supplies she's waiting to receive, but sadly neither are going anywhere until the postal strike is over.

Laura has created 75 motifs in less than 3 years. She plans on taking the best 15 out of the last 25 and putting them into a book. These are her latest creations; a little round-tuit, one with a nice mix of open and filled spaces, one she thinks needs a little tweaking and a tatted take on a crochet granny square.

Stephanie Grace tatted another Heritage Cross by Dee Powell from Tatted Bookmarks Needle and Shuttle edited by Barbara Foster in Lizbeth size 20, color 131, Vineyard Harvest. Then she finished hiding the ends of Small Round #11 by Kenna Prior from Ultimate Book of Tatted Doilies done in Lizbeth size 20, Color 157, Raspberry Frappe. Finally, she did one motif from the Wild Rose Tray Mat/ Luncheon Set" on pp. 55-56 of The Tatter's Treasure Chest edited by Mary Carolyn Waldrep in Lizbeth size 20. The center is color 644, Boysenberry Dk; the outer round is 131, Vineyard Harvest. That makes 25 and she's ready to start another round.

Motifs and Edging

It must have been a quiet day for tatting or everyone is outside enjoying or enduring the weather.

Fox has simple tastes and sticks to what she likes, but a tiny hole on a shirt called for something a little decorative. Then another shirt got the same kind of action. Is this a new trend? Maybe not since Fox likes tatting but not sewing. One little sock decoration is nearly completed.

Motifs, Bookmark and Edgings

Ann borrowed "Let's Tat" from Fox and tatted this pattern from the book. With all the colours she used there were a lot of ends and though the piece has been done for months, it's taken all this time just to hide the ends.

Bree has tatted a lovely bookmark by Dianna Stevens in Lizbeth size 20 Vineyard and a complimentary color whose name she has forgotten. She's working this edging in size 20 Lizbeth Spring Green which is a compilation of several versions of the same edging using her own stitch count.

Fox saw an edging on Bree's blog and had to try it out. Then she realized that the green beads and a gorgeous thread she has in Lizbeth size 40 were just made for one another. So Mini-Boss is getting some more pretty socks.

Gina has tatted Plate 2, figure 9 from the D.M.C. Tatting by Therese de Dillmont which she thought was going to be more complicated than it was. The scallops that it starts with are just partly closed rings and the second row is just chains with rings thrown off. As usual Gina has shown a close up with stitch count on her blog. The whole thing is finished off with a crocheted header. Her first thought when she tatted it was that it looked like a crown so she tatted a crown for Barbie with 2 strands of DMC copper metallic floss.

Butterflies, Edgings, Earrings, Bracelet and Bookmarks

Tattabug loves real butterflies and loves tatting these butterflies like Monica Hahn's butterfly from Christmas Angels and Other Tatting Patterns which she did in Aqua Bay HTD by Yarnplayer. The yellow one she did in Flora and it's from the book Tatted Butterflies by Adelheid Dangela.

When Bonnie noticed that the friend she just taught to tat loves giraffes, she just had to tat her some from Martha Ess' book More Critters on the Block. She used Tatskool's Antique Bronze HDT and put them on a fabric postcard for her friend.

Fox has a new friend named Gian who is learning all about tatting. Fox has been industriously working on the hanky edging and even managed to find a spot for the green beads.

Katherinne has tatted an edging in vintage thread and tiny pink beads for a hanky with pink embroidery and a pair of matching earrings. Its a gift for a friend that has been done for a while but she's just getting around to showing us now.

Stephanie Grace tatted Yarnplayer's Remembrance Ring in Lizbeth Size 20, Color 149, Peacock Blues with two colors of size 11 Czech glass seed beads and one small Hematite star, but it turned out too big for her hands. She started again with a slightly larger star and ended up with an entire bracelet.

Wanda has been very busy lately and doesn't have any tatting to show for Tatting Tea Tuesday, so her husband, being the peach that he is, collected up the tatted bookmarks that she has made for him and took a picture of them for her to share. He's definitely a keeper.

Bracelet, Bookmarks, Earrings, Edging, Motifs and a New Tatter

Marta has a new bracelet design and a new and interesting bookmark.

Tatteristic couldn't resist making another braided bookmark. This one is with a variegated color and she thinks it has a more interesting look.

Bonnie tatted some earrings for a swap I was in, using a pattern from Free Tatting Patterns

Gina has figure 8 in Plate 2 of the D.M.C. Tatting vintage publication done. She used 20 for the tatting and size 40 DMC for the crochet part. This is a second piece she tatted to make an edging for a bag. She has included the stitch count for anyone who wants to try it, then she did it again in colour with beads.

Orsi tried to connect her new motif to stretch it on a frame. She also has a new tatter to show. Her daughter has tatted a whole collection of flowers and is well on her way to being as prolific as her Mom.

Cross, Star and Motif

Garyo tatted Mary Konior's Large Cross from Tatting with Visual Patterns in Lisbeth size 40 colour 681 and found it was too large for some books. Size 80 thread works well for bookmarks to make something that will fit.

Fox found navy thread and navy beads to make Kira's Star by Birgit Phelps but the navy doesn't take a good picture. The pattern has been altered a little tatting the outer rings as rings instead of chains.

Orsi has twisted some things to create another motif design.

Motifs, Doily, Earrings, Cat, Bookmarks, Edging and a Wreath of Hearts

Anika has been trapped at her aunt's house for longer than anticipated without tatting supplies so she made do with her box of jewelry findings and some thread she had dyed. The results are a lot of rings encased in tatting in lots of interesting shapes and a small motif.

Ninetta tatted this doily in DMC 80 thread in red and black using 2 shuttles without cutting to climb out of rows and made it into a necklace. It is a classic pattern, that combines tatting and crochet that she thought would lead to heavy lace, suitable only for pillow or bed cover but she has changed her mind.

Bev aka BJ celebrated her 75th birthday and Jane sent her these lovely blue earrings and a Small Cat she designed in honor of her namesake, Pippa. Bev, meanwhile managed to tat her June bookmark for the Tatting Forum in honor of the College baseball season with a design by Nancy Tracey from Tat’s Where I Stopped and I using TatsKool’s Choc Sauce, DMC white, and Flora, red threads.

Brigitte found this bookmark that looks like a variation of an antique edging pattern called "Basket Edge" easy to tat. She used Altin Basak 50 variegated on the shuttle and shaded green for the chains.

Diane has been inspired to start an oval doily and has begun work on Graciella from Tatted Doilies by Iris Niebach using DMC 8 and so far it's working out.

Fox copied Miranda's placement and size of beads on Jon's motif although the variegated thread didn't define the cross shape in the middle as well as the solid colour does. She considered another edging for the hanky and markers do help her with it, but in the end this one was discarded too. She thinks she has finally settled on a pattern from Cathy Bryant's Tatting with gold Delica beads. Her car has a new ornament. Does it look familiar? To help her cope with so much work in fine thread she had to take a break and work with something like size 8 DMC Perle cotton for Birgit Phelps' Kira's Star.

Orsi has finished the tatted wreath and she is very interested in exchanging it for a tambour hook. Does anyone have a tambour hook? She'd really like to make an exchange.
