Doily, Dragon, Edging, Flowers, Motifs, Ornaments, Snowflakes, Necklaces and Earrings

Petite has now had 2 tatting sessions and it looks like lots of tatting has been going on.
Kkommy finished Jon's Pirrouette from the Snowflake Collection in Caribbean for the centre and Turquoise Lt #662 for the outer round. She did Mary Konior's Spinning Wheel glass mat in April and she's doing it again to see how her tatting has improved, but here's where the shuttle ran out of thread.

Ingrid tatted this pendant with black Pia crotchet cotton. It's one motif from a pattern called Tischlein deck'dich by Marianne Langwieser/Tatiana Scharowa found in the book Occhi-Schiffchenspitze-Frivolite. The centre finding is from the Tourmalijn in Werkendam and the finished piece is quite large, being 12 cm in diameter.
BSOTF has completed her round ring motif and now I can clearly see the it's a pendant and earring set meant to be worn to a tractor pull. Silly me, I thought the tractor was going to wear it. What a cute set in lovely fall colours that remind me of hay bales, corn stalks and pumpkins.
Mickchick tatted Yarnplayer's Vision necklace which she modified a bit. It didn't come out quite as smooth as she would like so she's going to try again with different beads and needle sizes to see what works for her.

Isabel and the Spanish speaking group are going through one of the public domain publications, tatting the designs and bringing them up to date. This one was particularly difficult because even after it had been translated, it didn't seem to work, as there appears to be a discrepancy between the written pattern and the picture. Fox's finished hat looks smashing and thanks to a self threading needle she was able to sew the tatting on with yarn so that it looks like it was professionally done. The next one for the littlest grand is almost finished too, but she's tired of pink so she's thinking of this turquoise and lime motif with some edging at the bottom in lime or turquoise and white beads. Sounds like a winner to me. Vicki Clarke's BandAid Heart is for a friend with a leg in a cast.
Marty's Dad's high school mascot was a dragon and the school colours were harvest orange and black so she tatted Anne Bruvold's dragon in Lizbeth size 40 to go on his cap. The fair judges liked it well enough to give it a first place ribbon. The ornament made from a modified Ice Crystal design from Blomqvist and Persson's Tatting Patterns and Designs also won a first prize.

Earrings, Bookmarks, Edging, Motif, Necklaces and Snowflakes

Kkommy finished Anne Bruvold's Dragon Wing Doily in Lizbeth Royal Wave size 20, color 143. Then she did Twirly from Jon's Snowflake Collection in Lizbeth Royal Wave and Caribbean. She has started Pirquette also from Jon's Snowflake Collection using a solid and a variegated thread and started another centre to empty her shuttle. Not needing to empty shuttles is yet another reason why I love using bobbin shuttles. Ingrid re-tatted the necklace based on Agasunset's version omitting one of the in between rings and tatting it in finer thread. This isn't part of the challenge, but as you have seen the first version, you'll want to see this version too. Ingrid said getting the 2 small beads on the sides to keep it in place was the biggest challenge. The next necklace uses a motif from a 1980 Burda publication and the heart shaped beads are a corn-colour. Matching earrings would be lovely. She was tatting a 6-petal beaded leaf, made with some old wooden beads when she paused after the 4th petal and look what she has a "Butterleaf".

BSOTF has tatted an orange and green round ring motif and asks the question, "Could it be something to look sexy on a tractor?" I don't know, I suppose you'd have to ask another tractor.
Lily was one of the lucky winners for IsDihara's Artbin Giveaway and included in her prize was a hanky with a delicate tatted edging. Sue is tatting 65 of these paperclip heart bookmarks for a ladies meeting in October. She's done 19 so far and needed to take a break from little hearts so she started a new Mary Konior Small Cross in Lizbeth size 40 Fruit Fizz thread. She had originally planned to do the outside in Lilac Dk but she was sent size 20 instead of 40 so she did both rounds in Fruit Fizz and as she was finishing her tied thread on round one came apart so she's keeping this one.

Ancolie did another square motif. This one by Lene Bjorn was a bit easier to do.

Marty tatted these earrings with Oren Bayan multi-colored metallic thread and tiny little blue beads and entered them in "Creative Arts: Jewelry-mixed media", but like the rest of her jewelry, they got moved to "Home Arts" where the only person she was competing against was herself. Still it's nice that her second favourite earrings got a first place ribbon.

Bookmarks, Butterfly, Doily, Earrings, Edging, Flowers, Angel and Motifs, Necklaces, Snowflakes

Petite has now finished the Dragon Wing Doily and she's off to her tatting class.Tats wanted to do Anne's Tardis bookmark for a long time, but she didn't know how to do split rings. Thanks to Linda's You Tube videos she now knows how to make split rings and she's the proud owner of a Tardis bookmark in Lizbeth size 20, colour 654. Marta has nothing to show but a lot of unfinished pieces. To me it looks like 3 pair of earrings and a pendant. Nami has a new pair of earrings ready for Viola.
Tatteristic has tatted the Thirteenth Day of December pattern which has long chains and a new technique to learn, split chains.
Wanda has started tatting bookmarks for a challenge on one of the forums to tat one bookmark a month. She has a head start on this month with 2 although she thinks one doesn't look quite finished.
Diane has been highly motivated to tat with the new Chris Hinton's Winder Shuttle version 1.2 and she made Motif A from "Elegant Tatted Sampler" from the book Tatted Samplers by Karen Lindsay.
Fox has her 3D flower assembled and attached to the hat and the beaded edging is progressing nicely. She's been saying she'd never use beads, never make 3D flowers or design her own tatting, but here she has beads and flowers and what's this? a new design? She was fooling around with some thread and look what happened. Krystle needed some tatting therapy to help deal with stress. Here are her Spanish Dancer earrings in Vineyard at Dusk HDT and a new, as yet unnamed colour of HDT. Then there were these earrings in Lizbeth's new olive green.
Marty won first prize for this lovely tatted angel made with white button cotton and a tiny bit of Oren Bayan gold metallic thread. She can't find the pattern for it, but if anyone recognizes it can you let her know so that she can give proper credit. This one was entered in "Wedding Accessory." for the flower girl's dress because she didn't have anything else to put in the wedding category.
Sherry took home 3 first place ribbons; for Iris Nirbach's TIAS doily, her Prima butterfly, and for her pineapple bookmark. She also took home 3 second place ribbons for both of her tatted necklaces and for her awesome barnyard theme. That's pretty good for 7 entries especially when some of the categories were so broad.

Bracelets, Doily, Flowers, Hearts, Motifs, Necklaces and Ornaments,

Kkommy is still working on the Dragon Wing Doily but with the heat and humidity it wasn't good for tatting. She has started Jon's Stars in Clover using Lizbeth Falling Leaves #100 in size 20 and managed to get it finished.
Ingrid made this pendant in black Pia crotchet cotton, a colour that perfectly matches her new sweater. The little medallion was made to empty her shuttle and it will go to her card making friend. The pattern is from Burda frivolité, 1980 edition and it's one motif of an edging.
BSOTF shows us a hat for the wee one decorated in tatting.
Magda has prepared lots of tatting for the harvest festival. First there are bracelets made with Altin Basak 50; Serenade in light green, Czardas in red, Viennese Waltz in white and Tango in black. Ear clips also in green to match the Serenade bracelet. Then a multi layered brooch in yellow Aida size 20 with the honey coloured beads is called Dahlia and Amaryllis 1 is made in coral colour Aida and Amaryllis 2 is done in lime coloured Aida. These are based on Linda Davis' designs.
Mickchick made tatted this pendant with DMC Linen Embroidery floss.
Kjellaug tatted this motif by Debbie Arnold after first learning how to do split rings. She had to modify it a bit because of the thick thread she was using.
Agasunset started another mask but didn't have time to complete it. She started again using wool and decided that it looked good too. Katherinne has had one of those doilies where an earlier error has required cutting off an entire row, but it's nearly done now. (Ouch! We can all sympathize with that one.) She made this bracelet using size 10 Royal thread, in Bridal Blue and even after some aggressive blocking it looks limp. The next one was done in DMC Cebelia size 10 and when she emptied the shuttles she tried again in the same thread but with different stitch count and the Cebelia seems a little firmer. Cebelia and Royale are 3 ply threads. If you really want something with body you need to use a 6 cord thread like Lizbeth.
IsDihara wanted to see what the effect would be on the design if she applied the shoelace trick on a design in various ways. Check out her blog for a description of the changes she used to tat Mary Konior's Queen of Hearts in different colours.
Fox gives us a preview of how the hat is coming along. It's going to look just grand when it's all finished.
Marty was really disappointed with the second place ribbon she got for this ornament. It's made in DMC size 80 red and green threads with red, green, and white beads and she made a completely different bottom for it. All the judges could say was that it was not spaced evenly on the ball. (They obviously don't know much about making lace in fine threads.)
