Dragons, Teddy Bears and Motifs

Heather used a green variegated sewing thread for this motif and worked with a size 8 needle. She mixed it with white sewing thread because it was hard to see. It looks very delicate.
Alan is working on his Christmas tatting with this snowflake from "Tatting, Doilies, and Edgings" in Flora #20.
Jeanne is working her way through TIAS 4 but she didn't have 3 shades of the same colour so she's working with 3 colours instead. It will be interesting to see how it works out.
Nita posted her TIAS 4 pictures and it looks like she too is using 3 colours instead of 3 shades of colour. I wonder what it will turn out to be? Nita won blue ribbons at the Los Angeles County Fair for this little needle felted that she dressed in tatting. Another blue ribbon went to this Celtic doily that she used hand dyed thread from Marilee Rockley to create. Her tatted hot air balloon with the needle felted bear only merited a red ribbon. Congratulations Nita.
Iris has been invited by Lacis Lace Museum in Berkeley in California in February next year to teach tatting for different classes, from beginners to advanced. Congratulations, Iris, we're sure the classes will be thrilled to have you.

Jeff managed to get all three dragons into his mug. They look sensational. He's working on Sherry's TIAS 4 but no pictures of it yet.

Diane has tatted a length of Mary Konior's "Hedgerow" is from Tatting in Lace, and she shows us her new book Boutique Tatting.

Pamela has been tatting Anne's dragon in a variety of colours. The latest was a combination of the shades she had finished making HDT with. Then she worked on creating a rich berry red HDT that she named Berry Burst
Ruth reports that the October 18th event is filled, but there will be several of these events next year. Her latest tatting adventure is a tatted doily that duplicates a plastic tatting look alike. Is that life imitating art or art imitating life?
I've posted images of all of the tatting from the last 6 years of the Tatted Lace Pattern Collection at the end of a phase.
Sherry has created "Coral Rose" HDT and tatted a Lion Bookmark from Dianna Stevens "Animal Bookmarks: A Tatted Zoo" in size 20 Flora Ecru and the mane is her own hand dyed tatting silk in size 10 "Middle Earth". She has also posted day 5 of the TIAS challenge.

Monday Update

Jeanne posts her motifs 16 & 17. Motif 16 is from Patti Duff's Mini Tat book and is called Motif 41. It is done in Manuela size 20 thread. Motif 17 is a rosary Jeanne made for a friend. It is done Manuela size 20 thread in colour # 204. She also shows her progress on the latest TIAS.



Aileen tatted one of Anne's Norwegian Dragons using some DMC variegated thread. Beetroot is an appropriate name for the dragon.


Heather wastes no time starting the 25 motif challenge a second time. She starts off with a little snowflake done in one strand each of a green variegated and white sewing thread. Her second motif is a really pretty necklace that is using an amber coloured plastic ornament thingamajig (my terminology, not hers). She used white size 10 thread for the necklace. As usual, patterns are available for both motifs.



Maria's 3rd motif is a pendant. I like it too Maria.

Carol posts a picture of Scooby-Doo that she made some time ago. Isn't he cute?

Clyde's latest post is about remembering to appreciate. Well said Clyde, as always.

Gina reveals pictures and modern patterns for the September Mystery Tatting. She also posts some rick-rack and tatting coasters and bookmark. As well a a triangular bag decorated with angels.

Wow, Two Finish the Challenge

Heather has finished #25 of 25 and it is a fine looking Volkswagen Beetle. Congratulations on completing the challenge.


Tattingchic is making snow in September. The patterns for motifs #14 and #15 come from a German tatting book that she bought for her birthday.



Ellen has joined the T.I.A.S. that is in progress and has completed the first two parts.




Shay is taking some time off from tatting and is making red pepper jelly.

Ice Cream Cones, Cro-tatting and T.I.A.S.

Motif #20 for Tara. You are almost there. This ice cream cone makes me really hungry. Shame on you!

Connie's back! She shows us her bookmarks for my May Bookmark Exchange. The green & white bookmark went to Singapore, using DMC Cebelia size 30 Color # 699 green and BLANC (white). She can't remember right at the moment just where I found the pattern, other than it was in one of my tatting books. The Yellow bookmark stayed in the USA and was done in JP Coats Big Ball Best 6-cord in size 30 color # 10A. If it looks familiar to you, it's the ever popular Kersti Anear "Floral". For motifs 21-23 which were part of her July Christmas exchange she did up a snowflake, again the DMC Cebelia BLANC size 30 thread which was designed by Teri Dusenbury. She also did a heart in variegated blue- another JP Coats thread in the best 6-cord size 30 Color # 13. Design was by Susan K Fuller "Heart's Desire" found on Georgia Seitz' site. Last but not least is the 3-d Rose Brooch pin by Jeanne Lugert is done in another JP Coats thread 6-cord size 30 variegated purple for the outside rings and the yellow used in the bookmark for the inside part of the rings. Followed by the DMC Cebelia size 30 Color #699 for the green petal background.

Sherry has started the much awaited TIAS 4. Day 1 is already up and running! She also introduces her new colourway called RIO and new shuttle that will be up for sale in her etsy shop.
Snowy shows her go at bobbin lace with a pattern from Lace for Children of All Ages.

Zarina finally gotten her loot from Lacis and she gives us an update on her crafts across the board. Looks like she's hard at work doing HDTs too!

Hens and chicks, Hearts and Ice cream

Three cheers for out volunteers! Aren't they great? Thanks to our wonderful volunteers Aileen, Clyde, Jeff and Laura there have been regular updates done, and I'm not going crazy trying to keep up with it all. I really, really, really appreciate it and I'm sure all our participants do too.

Kathy N. has begun the story of her tatting adventures and her first motif for the challenge, with a simple hens and chicks edging. Kathy has shown different ways she has used this versatile edging to make pin or pendant, to top a tiny basket, covering an egg, making a sun catcher, decorating a doll's dress, and making a 3D bell. Jeanne hasn't done any tatting recently although she did buy a lovely new shuttle from Grizzly Mountain Arts.

Tara has been tatting Eliza's ice cream cone and playing around with bead placement. Motif 19 is a strawberry ice cream cone.

Ellen interlinked Teri Dusenbury's Heart Frame tatted with Manuela 20 threads as a gift for her colleague, Cassandra, for her ROM day on 9 Sep 08.
Barbara used one of her new shuttles from Randy Houtz for this easy Christmas tree and it was the first time she used a lock join stitch.
Eliz is working o a bookmark pattern for the online class and she'll post pictures later.
Carol had to tat Anne's dragon in lavender and now he sits proudly on her shirt.

Butterflies, Dragons, and Geometric Shapes

Jeff here, doing the Monday update. Since this is my first time updating the 25 Motif Challenge page, please be gentle. Hopefully I didn't miss anyone, but if I did, it wasn't intentional.


Heather is one busy lady. She has posted a really pretty butterfly using size 10 thread. As always, she has posted the pattern. She was also challenged by her husband to tat a VW Baja Bug. I can’t wait to see the results.


While the rest of the family were out, Ais tatted a cool little triangle in size 8 pearl cotton. Unfortunately, she doesn’t remember where she found the pattern. Perhaps someone out in Tatting Land knows?


Ellen has been tatting more of her butterflies. They are so realistic; better be careful Ellen, they may fly away! She also shares some crocheted doilies that she received in an exchange as well as a couple cross stitched name tags. All beautiful.


I have made two more of Anne’s dragons. One was done in turquoise Omega thread in size 30. And the second one in Pamela’s Coral Reef HDT in size 30. Both dragons will join the blue one I made earlier in the mug.


Gina shows us some fabric samples she won in a give away as well as some crocheted Romanian Point Lace cord.

Laura shows us her progress with the Starlight Doily from the Tatter's Treasure Chest, done in Pamela’s Coral Reef HDT. Beautiful work Laura!

Norma shows us the knitted lace socks she made while “watching” the Olympics. She also shares some embroidery stitches and her first attempt at bobbin lace. Way to go Norma! I gotta learn bobbin lace someday.

Pamela is busy dying thread and trying to get her online shop running. I’m sure the HDT Addicts out there are waiting in anticipation for her shop to open.

Sherry has been hanging out with the birds for inspiration for her latest HDT. Looks like she was distracted by all the pretty colours. Sherry is also teasing us with another hint for the TIAS she is going to be hosting.

Zarina has gotten the heavy parts of her Master’s completed. She has also been busy dying thread. Sound like another shop will be opening online. Zarina posts some pictures taken in the heart of Kuala Lumpur
