Daisy cluny, rainbow heart, forgotten motives and miniature lace

Ruth has posted a daisy cluny ring. Following these techniques is making my head spin. Do you realize how many new things have been experimented with and expanded on just because we are tatting 25 motives. There are a lot of people who aren't participating in the challenge, but they are still following the results and talking about them on the tatting lists. What a wonderful way to expand our circle of friends and circle of influence. The other posting Ruth has shared is a heart that was in the Tatting Pattern Calendar yesterday. The Calendar has been another source of inspiration and has yet another motif in it today which was inspired by the medallion Ruth posted a while ago.

Mark has sustained an injury that will keep him from tatting for a while. Keep your thumbs up Mark.

Kathy tatted a sunny yellow motif from a 1968 Workbasket pattern in size 20 Flora thread. She has also posted a heart in a beautiful variegated Caron thread size 10. The pattern is a creation of Susan Taliaferro isn't it beautiful?

Sharon has posted some blobs of things she's working on and talks about the trials of publishing tatting patterns.

Azie hasn't been tatting for very long but after a long break she has posted some pictures of what she has been doing. She has three new motives to show all of them very well done. Only 20 more to go. Don't feel bad, I've only posted ONE.

Charlene has posted pictures of her Algerian stitch for the TAST challenge.

Marty tatted Iris Niebach's pattern Beatrice from "Tatted Doilies" done in Coats Machine Quilting thread in a variegated red -- about size 100. It's so tiny and delicate looking and just adorable. Know anyone who collects dollhouse miniatures? I know where they can find the perfect lace tablecloth.

Another tatter added to the challenge

Ruth posted a picture of an earring on Saturday Jan 7 and today you can see what it looks like tatted in the Tatting Pattern Calendar Ruth has created a lovely heart using the medallion design.

LaRae posts her thankful Thursday entry with a list of the things she is appreciative of. You know what I am thankful of Thursday and every day? That I can have a hot shower and get clean whenever I want. There's nothing like a clean body mind and spirit.

Marty has joined the challenge and posted her first 2 entries. The first entry looks like an edging. But when it's wrapped around a a styrofoam ball and pinned in place with a matching bottom it becomes a lovely ornament. Her second entry is a single shuttle bookmark, but she's worried that she hasn't figured out how to make all of her threads spaces even.

Tatted Treasures

Ruth has added a lot of lovelies to her blog. Tara brooch with beads is a real eye catcher and then she has hanging clunys, daisy picots, spiral chains, and celtic butterflies on a sea of burgundy.

Kathy has several new additions to her page as well. She is using the threads received in exchanges to tat up small motives and test the threads. Some of the pieces are sections of edgings, and motives from a variety of sources. The delightful little motif show here is Auver a sole silk color 494 and the pattern is from the July 1952 Workbasket. You'll have to see her blog for all of the other pieces.

Snowy has finally completed a doily from the Blomquist and Persson book. It's a wonderful doily done in vibrant colours that just sing. Snowy always chooses marvelous colours to work with. She pointed out that she missed a repeat on the outer edge, but the whole thing took so long to do she's just glad that it's finished. When the doily is in use you can always place a little ornament over that spot and no one will even notice it.

Azie has been involved in a redwork embroidery exchange and she shows the wonderful work that has been given and received.

Have you seen the recent entries in the Tatting Pattern Calendar? Lynda's Angel at Heart edging and Ruth's Tea Rose are just delightful. Great job tatters, now let's see more entries from our novice designers. This is a great way to get your toes wet publishing your work.

Jon has created a lovely 5 inch doily in size 40 thread. It wanted to ruffle a little but she tamed it by pressing it under a thick book. I've done that kind of thing before. Sometimes I just put it on a hard chair and sit on it while I'm working.

Maria has done a lovely delicate edging with a corner that would look gorgeous on a handkerchief. She has also done stacked rows of one shuttle edging suitable for an insertion and woven a pretty pink ribbon through it. It's very traditional but oh so feminine the ribbon could be a drawstring on a tatted bag or a camisole.

Azie has made slow progress on her stitching and hasn't been able to work on her tatting for a while so she thinks she may need a refresher course before she picks it up again.

Laura has changed Isaac's snake picture and incorporated some of the suggestions into a new picture. Looks good Laura.

LaRae has tatted a motif from a pattern on Wally's Tat-a-long. There is a variation in the way the joins were made.

Luscious laces, a feast for the eyes

Ruth has added beads to her celtic butterfly.

An estate sale find was the basis for this butterfly. Gail modified it so that it could be tatted all in one pass.

Clyde has completed a weeks worth of exercise and is feeling better for it. He's also finished the second tie back.

EeKoon has been busily stitching away on her pictures and show us her completed work and work in progress.

Jeanne has been quiet for a while, but busy. Her poor puppy got spayed and had a very sad time of it. The fabric store had a sale on and Jeanne scooped up a whole bunch of festive fabrics which she made into housewives. She tatted her 8th motif and added it to one of the housewives. The store has more sales on and Jeanne has gone fabric hunting again.

Carol has been tatting hearts for several exchanges, Hypno heart and Peppermint heart are some of her creations.

Marilee is wondering what this join is called?

"S" is for snake. Laura has made a picture with a tatted snake for Isaac. Braided tatting wrapped around the letter S and a colourful tatted snake in the grass. Very cute and very clever.

Charlene has posted some 3 inch Crazy Quilt blocks.

Mary did a second version of her Heavnly Heart using Delica bead DB512 and Flora thread 248 in size 20 and notes that it keeps it's shape better with the beads on the core thread. She has also posted a picture of the Lisa Marie earrings she designed made in Altin Basak size 50 thread, color # 354, with white pearlized size 11 seed beads. Delightful.

Tremendous Tatting

Ruth has posted more pictures of Celtic butterflies in lots of different colours and some with added beads. They're just gorgeous Ruth. I'd like a T shirt with lots of these scattered across it.

Gina did variations on a heart motif for the Tatting Pattern Calendar. Don't forget to let Ruth know if you have a design you'd like included.

Gail tatted a heart designed by Dorcas Newkirk, all rings are split rings but the point of the heart. She thinks the thread is Wildflowers by Caron, about a size 20, a soft thread that needs to be tatted loosely to close the rings easily.

Sue has been away from tatting for a while and jumped back in with the double daisy picot from Riet's blog. She also shows us a motif she was working on for the calendar, but didn't quite get it finished.

Mark has given the watercolor painting of his great aunt Mary Ellen to the family and it was appreciated by them all and will be used in the memorial services. He has plans to do several more watercolours of other family members. Liza the cat momentarily got her tongue stuck on Mark's knitted cap this morning which just goes to show how rough a kittie's tongue is.

Barbara has taken a selection of the motives she created and appliqued them to an inspirations book. Isn't it marvelous?

Carol's Wordless Wednesday is a picture of her new little friend.

Laura has been spending time with her grandson and discovering that she loves him more and more. Anybody ever taken an 11 month old toothless baby to the dentist? Sounds like fun, no teeth to worry about drilling and other nasty stuff.

LaRae's Wordless Wednesday is a bowlful of kitty. Thankful Thursday's entry is from Hosea 2:14-15 in The Message.I am noticing in many different blogs different ways to positively reflect on the past week. It's good to remember to be thankful as it keeps us appreciating our many blessings.

Charlene has been actively embroidering away on her quilts and stitched a lovely paisley heart. I wonder if it could be duplicated in tatting?

Daisy Picot and Hanging Cluny

Today Wally has tatted a daisy picot flower with hanging cluny leaf. Lots of fun stuff to be done with these techniques! Wally has also shared the snowflake that she made for her birthday on the Tatting Pattern Calendar.

Tatted Bookmarks and Butterflies

Did you see the challenge Ruth has posted in her blog? Has anyone given it a try yet? Ruth has also posted a White Paisley Heart & Fleurs Edging, a yellow Celtic butterfly and a green and purple butterfly. The Tatting Pattern Calendar has featured a couple of hanging cluny designs recently.

Lynda is working away on her Christmons, but the design isn't co-operating. She has decided that it's time to put it aside and try something else for a while.

Jon's entry for today is a bookmark with split rings and long woven picots. She has almost finished her challenge pieces and wants to make 2 more doilies to complete it. Awesome work Jon, it's been fun to see what you come up with.

Laura has tatted Dianna Steven's snake bookmark and has plans to frame it with the letter "S" for her grandson's nursery.

Dawn has designed her very first bookmark. It's a lovely Celtic design of interwoven blue and white.

Charlene shares a picture of some laces intended for CQ embellishment.

Mary designed a very simple little beaded butterfly for her granddaughter to tat and will do another design for her grandson.

LaRae has done pattern #54 from Patti Duff's "Minitats".

Dawn has made a whole collection of mitten bags embellished with tatting. She has created some heart motives and used Ruth's trefoil knot cross and celtic knot flower.

Charlene is showing pictures of her quilt blocks embroidered with cretan stitch for the Take a Stitch Tuesday challenge.

Multi Talented Tatters

Have you ever noticed it's hard to keep up with Ruth's tatting? Ruth has posted a bracelet of hanging clunies, the Beeton edging for the Tatting Pattern Calendar, a cross made with the same basic design and another variation of it which can be used as a bookmark. She also shares with us a Christmas decoration she made when she was about 12 and she's wondering if anyone recognizes the pattern.

Gail made a felted purse for her daughter and shows us the before felting elephant purse and the after felting normal size one.

Clyde is working out, taking care of the neighbor's cat and making a tie dyed polar fleece coat for his new puppy. Clyde is another candidate for a 48 hour day.

Many tatters dabble in several different crafts. In addition to tatting and bobbin lace Mark also paints lately he has been working on a watercolour of his great aunt Mary Ellen who was diagnosed with liver cancer. Please pray for her and her family.

I have just noticed that Jon has a second blog and she posted a thread comparison Does Size Matter? It gives a great visual for thread sizes as she made the same motif in several threads and shows them side by side.

Riet has done another flower. this time she has added leaves the way HelmaSiepmann does. These flowers get better and better.

EeKoon is addicted to blog things, What colour are you? What artist should paint your portrait? You could get lost for days following up all of the quizzes out there.

From Flowers to Flamingos

In between tatting up enough celtic designs to produce a book and teaching an on-line class on hanging clunies, Ruth has still found enough time to keep the Tatting Pattern Calendar going. Today's entry is a tatted edging provided by Gina Butler. Don't forget to give Ruth your designs if you'd like them to be used in the calendar.

Riet thought of an idea in the middle of the night and then got up and tatted it in the morning. The results is a beautiful flower.

Laura shows us the next round on her friendship doily. The post office seems to have lost one of the doilies. Lets hope they find it soon.

LaRae has posted a picture of a great horned owl, her contribution to Wordless Wednesday.

Martha has posted a picture of a remarkable heart she designed. It features a bunch of grapes and leaves surrounded by the heart shape. She did several variations to get to the final heart and shows us how she attained the final design.

Pamela has tatted a flamingo. Well, actually she's tatted a whole flock of them. She started with Martha Ess' design and eventually she'll be using them to make a picture. Then she tatted Jane Eborall's flamingo and made a slight change to show the bird standing with one leg raised.

Ruth recently taught hanging clunies to the on-line tatting class. She has listed a number of patterns that use this technique and shows us a snowflake and a beaded feather.






Lynda is back to working on her Christmons and shows us her latest additions, a Star, a Candle, and a Stacked Heart. The star is a Teri Dusenbury pattern, the Candle is by Nancy Tracy and the Heart is by Betsy Evens. Aren't they wonderful?








Jon has done 2 variations of the daisy picot heart and both of them are different from the one done by Ruth.





Riet also did a daisy picot heart and her design is different again. Look at the amazing variations!







Elizabeth launches into the challenge with a modification of a pattern which she thinks is from the summer of 1993 "Treasures in Needlework" magazine. The addition of beads and a change of stitch count made a lovely necklace and it doesn't look anything like a bib.







Laura was asked to identify a piece of lace. Is it machine made? Chemical lace? Needle lace? She has also taken another picture of the cross back lighted so that we could see the lovely colours in it.







LaRae has done another of the motives from "Tatting Patterns and Designs" by Blomqvist and Persson, but this time it was done in metallic gold. The other motif she has posted is from Patti Duff's Mini Tats.





Mary has finished her winter cleaning and cleared the deck to get started on the challenge. Her first entry is a heart motif she designed by accident. I wish all of my accidents looked like this.
