Leaves, Angels, Owls, Techniques, Motifs, Doilies, Bracelet, Pendants and Earrings

Jane has continues working through the Tatted Artistry of Teiko Fujito with motifs motifs 68 to 70. Leaf 69, in the middle, is quite tricky and this is her second attempt and still not right. She looked at the diagram initially and changed the direction of the outside chains at either end but that didn't look right, so she peered carefully at the photo in the book and realized that it depends for its effect on changing the tension of the chain in different areas, not the direction, as well as larger picots than she used in the centre. Here are all the leaves she tatted.

Sharon is emptying shuttles in preparation for Tat Days and making little angels from a pattern by Marie Smith. The angels and more little owls in size 10 thread are just slightly larger that an American quarter.

Sarah had the opportunity to take a three-day tatting class on rings with The Shuttle Brothers, Gary and Randy Houtz that was just rings - but rings using TWO threads, and techniques other than the self-closing mock ring. The results are shown here.

Melanie worked a Window Decoration pattern from Jan Stawasz book Tatting Theory and Patterns to help her better understand stitch count and other design issues in preparation for creating a stained glass window effect in tatting.

Diane shows us all the tatting she did in August. She's finished her first Spinning Wheel for September in the Japanese size 80. She started her next Spinning Wheel in size 80 thread, Lizbeth #679, Lime Green using her new copper shuttle. Packing for Palmetto Tat Days distracted her, so she didn't get much more tatting done, but progress is progress.

Fox is beginning Row Nine of Renulek's doily, and - surprise, surprise - is still enjoying this piece and still loving the thread.

Lilas tatted this bracelet using a pattern from the Priscilla Tatting book, working with Gutterman silk cordonnet thread.

Marie bought two strand of disks that she knew she could tat around and this is a simple pendant. Of course every pendant needs matching earrings. There were so many possibilities she had to make more in the same style.

Phyllis tatted a bunch of owls in size 10 thread to give away at Palmetto Tat Days.

Sue finally finished another row on her massive doily. These large doilies have thousands of stitches in the outer rows, so it's no wonder they take a while to complete.
