Laurie tatted the boat from Pam Palmer's Tatting Makes Three although she doesn't think it looks like it. The thread is size 40 Lizbeth in 656 Dark Wedgewood. Then she tackled split rings and found that her biggest challenge was NOT flipping stitches. Me too, that's why I used the dead spider because the change of hand position reminds me not to flip.
Jane made little muslin bags and decorated them with bits from her tatting tin to hold the earrings she just completed. Her next project is Two Hearts in One by Martha Ess although she's in a bit of a muddle with it. She used the cut off thread to tat Grace Tan's, Jane's Bookmark Cross.
Ginny has been playing with earrings. She's wondering if anyone has seen a design similar anywhere and notes that both are simple to make.
Kristen is thrilled that the big doily is done. Isn't it gorgeous? It's so large that she had to use one of the large boxes from their move to block it on. It's a full 20 inches of loveliness and she calculated that just the last row of it took 16.2 hours to complete.
Diane was ready to join the next arm to the center when she realized an earlier mistake and had to cut and fix. At least it wasn't a variegated thread. In consolation she started another Spinning Wheel glass mat by Mary Konior. Does Diane have a passion to cover the world in Spinning Wheel Glass Mats?
Fox shows us her progress on the Jan Stawsz doily. She only has 3 rows to go but one of them involves lots of ends to hide and she's not looking forward to it. On another note, she has decided that the Boye shuttles she ordered aren't her cup of tea and she's willing to exchange them for skein of HDT.
Marie tatted this purple cross called, Christina, in size 80 thread. This cross called Monica, was also done in size 80 thread.
Mica tatted Jon's Featherline Snowflake using DMC special dentelles No. 80 in white.
Sue bought some spools of variegated quilting thread to tat with, however she found the thread to be very, very fine. For comparison, the thread on the bottom is Rainbow Bright size 100. The quilting thread on top is finer than size 100. Here it is in Mary Konior's Spinning Wheel pattern where it measures a petite 3 inches across.
Wanda couldn't resist putting pink fabric with gold sparkles together with some purple fabric and adding a row of tatting in white thread with a gold filament and some beads to make a wonderful little girl's skirt for her granddaughter. The wee butterfly marks the front where the beads are, so she's not sitting on lumpy beads.
Challenge yourself to tat 25 motifs within the next 12 months and show us your progress. A motif can be a medallion, snowflake, heart, bookmark, butterfly, earrings or any small piece of tatting. Tell us where the pattern is from or if it's original. Post pictures on your blog, web page or photo page. Add a comment below the current post giving the location of your pictures and you will be added to the list of links.

Motifs, Heart, Star, Bookmarks, Earrings, Bracelet, Necklace, Doilies and Flower
Barbara has joined the challenge again with a whole lot of tatting, particularly tatting with buttons. This design from Karey Solomon's Tatting with Buttons was done in size 40 HDT and she turned it into a pendant. The heart pattern is from Debi Pennington and she used Lizbeth Size 40, #127 Butterfly Breeze. Another pattern from from the book Tatting with Buttons by Karey Solomon was done in Lizbeth thread size 20 which she made a mistake on and tatted it twice. The design using a star shaped button is one she designed herself. The little red heart is another design from Tatting with Buttons. She designed another button motif and turned it into a fridge magnet and gave a pair of them to each of her friends. The next pattern came from Lisa Trumble's This 'n' Tat web site and she used Lizbeth size 20, Linen - Med. for it. Then she picked up a design from the internet and tatted it in different colours. She also tatted a bookmark from Karey's book, but she won't be satisfied with it until she adds a tail.
Jane is thrilled to have orders for tatted earrings. The pair of hyperbolic tatting on the left are made in
Tat-ilious rainbow size 40, and the pair on the right are done in Olympus thread size 40. The other orders are for her pattern of flower earring done in Coats, size 40.
Julie tatted Mary Konior's Small Cross in size 70 vintage navy Star thread, with the gold variegated which is labeled "Fil Pour Crochet CtB France" and "Cartier Bresson". Christina from Tatted Bookmarks cross-shaped by Lene Bjorn is tatted in Lizbeth size 20 Navy Blue and Golden Yellow Med. Navy and yellow are the school colours and all 3 of the crosses she did went home with teachers.
Nancy like the Mystic necklace and bracelet so much she did it again, this time in Lizbeth's 'Red Burst' and red seed beads.
Diane finished another Spinning Wheel glass mat from Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior, this one in size 10 Teenybopper by Yarnplayer. Her variation of The Workbasket cross was started when she was on jury duty and tatted in size 80 Majestic, a very nice tatting thread. Shown next to the same cross done in size 20, you can see there's quite a difference in size. She received this cross bookmark in the mail from Carol, who found it while out shopping.
Fox has finished row 8 of the doily, but found a missed picot early on in the row and had to carefully deconstruct and reconstruct. Now she's wondering how the repair will hold up to laundering. Inspired by the doily done by Jeff, she just had to tat the design from Susanne Schwenke’s “Spitzen-Kreationen." She received this teeny tiny tatted flower done in size 100 thread from an exchange with Rachel. The directional turns in this Iris Niebach pattern has her gracefully laying it aside for another day, rather than flinging the whole lot of it across the room.
IsDihara tatted Jane's Bookmark Cross in Lizbeth size 20 #156 Juicy Watermelon. She used the SSSR to finish the bottom ring which was a great method of hiding ends.
Marie tatted Maria from Lene Bjorn's "Tatted Bookmarks" in size 80 tatting thread for each of 4 children getting confirmed.
Mica is still plugging away at finishing all the ends of the Minitats which were made with DMC special dentelles No. 80 in ecru.

Dragon, Butterflies, Motifs, Pendants and Earrings
Jane tatted 'Ringtrim, a microdragon', designed by Anne Bruvold for her youngest granddaughter who was born in the year of the dragon.
Lelia met with the Tollway Tatters who shared time, tatting and treasures like these interesting findings, threads and chocolate. With a few beads on the shuttle she managed to tat a few of Jon's Flutters.
Linda created an adorable stuffed dog crafted with tatting embellished crazy quilting.
Fox took a break and tatted a tiny motif by Petra Tornack-Zimmerman, using #40 Lizbeth. She really likes the fortuitous colour breaks in this motif as if the thread and pattern were made for each other.
Jess is tatting Jane's ferris wheel with hr new Under The Sea HDT.
Marie took a broken pin and added tatting in Lizbeth, size 20, Blue River Glades. This Idaho Spencer opal was tatted around with gold Lizbeth in size 20.
Martha has run into a roadblock in numbering the rings in a complicated design and she's looking for input.
Sue started to design a pair of dreamcatcher earrings fro her daughter The first attempt looked all right but when she tried to make it's mate she discovered that she had used size 40 Rainbow-licious from Jess, but had mistakenly used size 100 Rainbow Bright from Tatskool in the center so she set it aside. At her daughter's prompting she stated again and here they are in size 100 Rainbow Bright HDT from Tatskool
Wanda's mother's day gift to her MIL was this wooden JOY painted and decorated with tatting. Appropriate, since Joy is her MIL's name.
